“Scotland is now in quite serious decline.”
As the SNP’s power-sharing deal with the Greens falls apart and first minister Humza Yousaf’s future hangs in the balance, Andrew Neil says the “proud and previously successful”, Scotland is in a “mess” after 17 years of SNP rule.

Of course what he is saying about Ash is exactly what he said about Nicola until they fell out. Lets not forget Ash who has only been in Scotland a few years, made the nutty claim of Scotland being able to simply claim indy. She hasnt even lost her English accent. Is this why she insists on dressing as a shortbread tin? As for the greens what are they angry about? As others have pointed out, the situation in many areas - such as violent crime, housing, healthcare, education, justice etc is way worse in the rest of the UK compared to Scotland. Oh, and a wee word about education. These folks like to mention the PISA statistics on education where Scotland was seen to be behind the rest of the UK (marginally, in science and maths). The PISA statistics sampled 3,257 students in Scotland and 4,763 pupils in England. Anyone notice anything odd about those numbers? Also, the UK Government's Department of Education analysis of PISA for 2022 noted and I quote "England did not meet 2 of the 82 PISA Technical Standards.Analysis of the characteristics of the pupils who participated revealed that the final sample had somewhat higher academic attainment on average than the general population and a somewhat lower proportion of pupils who had been eligible for freeschool meals in the past 6 years. In other words, higher performing pupils may be over-represented in the final sample and some of the PISA results may therefore be somewhat higher than they might otherwise be." And, now, inside the last few years , they have stripped the funding as well as the possibility of our younger generation from achieving further education. This even covers the dirt-poor. For the first time in nearly three hundred years we aren't investing in those who represent the hope of Scotland's future. I repeat what I said before..."A proud and previously successful country now in quite serious decline..." is a shocking indictment of an out of control woke culture infantilising the population. It is however mostly our own fault because we say "yes" for an easy life when we should have said "NO" a lot more often. We're dealing with the consequences of that now. The political class are afraid of their own shadow because they are only interested in their personal success at the next election. Any benefit to the electorate from their actions is a fortunate co-incidence.

I now live in London having graduated from my home city of Aberdeen. That was in 1988. One of my contemporaries was a great guy Called Bob Salmond the younger brother of Alec. Sad to say I could see where all this was going. We studied history and we were paired a few times in the Scottish History Tutorials under the marvellous guidance and tutelage of Dr Terry Brotherstone. To the point. The younger Salmond was in step with the former Head Man and his writings reflected the one train of thought - total Independence with no quarter given. The Salmonds and then Sturgeon a facsist were a cross between William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and plunged ahead with gay abandon and just could never listen to any reasoned argument. They were full on. And now we have a mess. A mess of gigantic consequences. Reflecting on my experience I found Terry an amazing individual and I was blessed being in the presence of a wonderful human being. If you read this Terry, all my best regards to you. Given that the Scottish Government are responsible for only 40% of the money raised in Scotland how is a Scottish Government of any political hue solely responsible for making a mess of Scotland? (Or doing good things for Scotland for that matter). They have to run a balanced budget every year because their borrowing 'powers' amount to nothing more than an over draft. Where as the UK Government have run up unsustainable debts and taken us out of the EU against the wishes of the vast majority of Scots. Andrew Neil knows this but he's spinning for the UK.
