He reported late last evening that the Ukrainian forces have chased out the Chechnyan's from western hills of Klishichiivka, a key strategic area. In brief, the Ukrainians lured them into thinking they were retreating from the immediate hills, they fell for it, got pulverized and the Chechnyan's retreated as they were taking heavy losses. btw as tough as the losses were, I think Zelensky and his military command were/are right to concentrate on Bakhmut for all the reasons stated, and this time around it will bear more fruit if they retake that whole area in an incredible short time compared to how long it took Wagner and Russian forces to take it. That alone will be a huge blow as Russia made this a symbolic win no matter the toll it took on them. And the resulting fall-out in Russia and the leadership although unknown, will most definitely sow the seeds of discontent at the very least.

All wars boil down to economics. Wars end when one nation is no longer able (edit: or willing) to supply their military with the resources required to fight on successfully. That's why long range strike capability should have been supplied to Ukraine from the very beginning, without any restrictions (they already limit themselves to hitting only military targets). It's great that Ukraine is constantly taking out supply depots 80 miles behind the front lines, but these are small potatoes. What Ukraine must go after is the big stuff! The tank and artillery depots in Russia. Russian shell factories. The plants where Russia assembles and repairs their heavy equipment. The Sukhoi and Mikoyan manufacturing plants should have been turned to ashes long ago, along with every last one of Russia's oil storage facilities. In any other war these would be primary targets, but we don't allow Ukraine to take the gloves off. We do this despite the fact that Russia destroyed all such facilities in Ukraine in the opening months of the war. It's long past time to finally cut off Russia's supply lines at the source!

Bahkmut is mostly a PR campaign because Russia made such a big deal out of capturing it Also as long the Ukrainians can continue to inflict 5 or 7 to 1 losses there, there is a good reason to keep fighting in Bahkmut Just wear down the Russian forces in one place and push somewhere not as well defended

Bakhmut could easily end up being as costly to Russia as their entire failure in Afghanistan-a failure that was directly related to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Like any other war, the Afghanistan war crippled and injured soldiers (called Afgantsy) who then had to be sent home. By the mid-1980s, there were already about a million Afgantsy in the Soviet Union and they had emerged ‘as a new social force in their own right’. The Afgantsy felt betrayed. Many of them organized into vigilante groups determined to fight the money grubbers and ‘scroungers’ who had sent them to war and were ignoring their existence. By the late 1980s, some Afgantsy had begun organizing themselves politically. The Afghanistan war created conditions for the demilitarization of Soviet society. Something similar could happen again, a division between the army and the Putin regime and between the army and the citizens, which then undermines the legitimacy of the army as a moral institution that is supposed to safeguard the oppressed.
@hansolowe19 Жыл бұрын
@@kiandrah8517 that may not be a good comparison. They are learning but I am not sure if it is enough. Stalin relaxed control over the army and the generals were given more freedom, is that happening now or are they still rigidly top-down? It seems to me the latter. For now.

The Ukranians are in the process of encircling, or partially encircling Bakmut. This places Putin in a dilemma. Either he orders a withdrawal from Bakmut, which would be a blow to his prestige after spending so effort to capture it; or he tries to defend an untenable position, which will be a meatgrinder for the undersupplied Russian soldiers within the city, under fire from three or maybe four directions. From the Ukrainian point of view, Bakmut has become a trap for Putin.

In my opinion, the reasons Ukraine defended bahkmut was because russians were there, it was only strategically important as it kept them there, and ukraine was able to take advantage of the situation to make it a good killing field while they organised elsewhere largely unmolested. The reason ukraine would now want to retake bahkmut is because its the only victory putin/russian forces could tout as a real success, and since the russian military/putin had to spend so much time touting this success to justify the 10 months and tens of thousands of losses, for ukraine to just retake it would be massive blow to russian propaganda and putins credibility, not to mention absolutely devestating to the russian military morale (which is already crushed as it is), not only that but as mentioned ukraine doesn't have to worry about civilians because there's only russians so they can fire away at a safe distance. Russia can't afford to lose the city, so it could very easily become ukraines #1 asset for unaliving russian forces again, as they keep sending people in to try to hold it.

1) Bakhmut was indeed strategically insignificant, but it was very well fortified. 2) Ukraine tricked russia into attacking there of all places (were most of the defence was) by way of several public comments carefully designed to lure the russias. This worked. 3) russia spends 10 months dashing its forces against the rocks of Bakhmut. Amazingly never once stopping to think there are easier ways to move west and easier cities to attack in the region. I mean how dumb can you get???? 4) russians finally take the place, with excellent losses as far as Ukraine is concerned. The trap did its job. 5) russian propaganda proclaims a historic victory. 6) Ukraine now takes it back to deliver a major humiliation. The city was indeed worthless until the russians made it not worthless. Now it is a golden target because of how much effort it took russia to take it and how much they crowed victory when they did.
