"the Ukrainians are succeeding in making the Russians think that Crimea, the defence of Crimea, air and land, is a cost...too far.'
Russian offensive collapse north of Kharkiv has caused stagnation across Putin's offensive as Ukraine's attacks on Crimea deepen, Robert Fox tells Kate Gerbeau on Frontline.

This is why it's so important that NATO and the West really steps up its aid to Ukraine. Don't allow Putin the slightest pause to catch his breath. Then, with a little sense and luck, his own betrayed Russian people will deal with him.

It did from 1991 - 2014. For many hundreds of years before that it was part of Russia. The population of Crimea voted by a clear majority referendum to return to Russia. In Crimea under Russia, the Ukrainian and Tartar languages are protected by law. If it were Ukrainian, the Russian language spoken by 90% would be banned, as would the Orthodox church.

Mostly supply bottlenecks. The US is really the only NATO member who kept a substantial military budget post-Cold War and has defense commitments around the world. The ammunition production simply doesn't exist on the scale required right now. Ramping up production to meet demands is happening, but very slowly. It's a costly process and the average citizen of the supporting countries doesn't see the value in. There's also been an element of escalation management in western countries that've held them back from fully committing.

There is a dark side to this. Russia has lost 500,000 young men it doesn't have to spare. Ukraine has doubtless lost as many, and basically all young women as refugees. Whether Ukraine wins or loses, both countries lose and the whole region is wrecked for the next 50 years. The West might see an upside to that.

Yea except that’s not happening in reality…. Perhaps you’d like to compare receipts and compare what America has done for Ukraine compared to the UK?? America has spent hundreds of billions of dollars and they are sending over billions every week to FUND THEIR GOVERNMENT and pension/welfare/payroll systems or it would have collapsed years ago. America has spent many many many times more in Ukraine DESPITE the fact Ukraine winning is FAR MORE in the EUs and UKs national interests than it is Americas, and the only reason Ukraines military is doing as well as they are other than their bravery on the battlefield is because America has spent the last 10yrs building up their armed forces from the ground up and have them hundreds of billions in military equipment…. The only thing that is contemptible is your ignorance on the matter clearly you don’t know WTH you’re talking about….. maybe go ask your friends Indian PM why the UK isn’t doing more.

In order to make military service attractive to its citizens Ukraine needs to offer attractive incentives to military veterans. Combat veterans, in particular, should receive preference in job hiring; home purchases; bank loans; food purchases; vehicle purchases. Wow, very inciteful interview with Robert Fox! As a rather blinders-on American, his name hasn't been on my radar but I deeply appreciate his analysis on the interplay of the world powers, vis-a-vis the war in Ukraine. I fear a potential Trump presidency and appreciated Mr. Fox's observation that Trump may be constrained by realities if he intends to defend the east from Chinese hedgemony. Unfortunately, reality has never been Trump's strong suit. The subtleties of US interests will likely take a back seat to his focus on political retribution. Most thought provoking was Mr. Fox's observation that NATO members abilities may be hobbled by their collective debt. China being the largest holder of this debt is in a unique position to turn the financial screws on us to achieve its goals. This is what the future looks like when we mortgage our children's future for immediate gratification.
