Russia retreated 4 times in the course of this war, and the bloody advance in the Donbass is only measured by how many Russians die for each square mile. Ukraine on the other hand have managed to resist against a country 10 times its military power with drones, robots, javelins and modern-day maneouvres. Russia has displayed a pathetic disregard for life, and has already been defeated geopolitically the moment Finland joined NATO.

@@ailinofaolin8897at the rate of a few hundred square feet / tens of square meters per soldier killed. Consider that with almost one million killed so far, they are likely to have lost one percent of the entire population by the end of 2025, and three or four percent or more of all the working-age men. Plus an equal number who left Russia to avoid or escape mobilization. I would not be surprised if 10% to 30% of all the computer experts, young scientists, and actually competent engineers have left. So for Russia at this point, win it lose the nation has taken itself off the field of international relations. Far from a "world power", it is doomed to become a client state of China, a backwater, or break up into several regional groupings. Ideally those would become nations in their own right, but China is already making large inroads into the eastern regions where the total population is smaller than a neighborhood in any Chinese city.

One of my long term concerns is that the strong correlative feedback between culture and genetics has left Russia, and to some extent all of eastern Europe and central Asia with major genetic influences of Genghis Khan and his army. This has left, according to my Romanian friend, the incidence of psychopathic tendencies at as much as 25% of the male population in those regions. If true, even 100 years of forced/encouraged "liberal values" and governance may not change the culture and habits of the people. On the other hand, his policy positions he is transparent about, and he tries to achieve. Which is a breath of fresh air, compared to what most normal politicians do, which is state a position and do the opposite a lot of the time, or they just don't pursue the things people care about at best.
