It makes me wonder what all the UK based Ban the Bomb protesters would say to the question, ‘if Ukraine had kept their nuclear arsenal after independence would Russia still have invaded?’ I think not.

Belarus and Kazakhstan also handed over their nukes after the collapse of the USSR but they were never invaded, and will never be invaded by Russia, because from Russia's perspective, the Budapest Memorandum is only valid for neutral post Soviet states, not NATO proxies and puppets.

@IronThreads08 4 сағат бұрын
@@ailinofaolin8897 By very effective, you mean that after 3 years, Russia has got colossal numbers of its soldiers killed and still has only taken a fifth of Ukraine, and has lost territory in Kursk. Russia retreated 4 times in the course of this war, and the bloody advance in the Donbass is only measured by how many Russians die for each square mile. Ukraine on the other hand have managed to resist against a country 10 times its military power with drones, robots, javelins and modern-day maneouvres. Russia has displayed a pathetic disregard for life, and has already been defeated geopolitically the moment Finland joined NATO.
@skymaster4121

@@ailinofaolin8897at the rate of a few hundred square feet / tens of square meters per soldier killed. Consider that with almost one million killed so far, they are likely to have lost one percent of the entire population by the end of 2025, and three or four percent or more of all the working-age men. Plus an equal number who left Russia to avoid or escape mobilization. I would not be surprised if 10% to 30% of all the computer experts, young scientists, and actually competent engineers have left. So for Russia at this point, win it lose the nation has taken itself off the field of international relations. Far from a "world power", it is doomed to become a client state of China, a backwater, or break up into several regional groupings. Ideally those would become nations in their own right, but China is already making large inroads into the eastern regions where the total population is smaller than a neighborhood in any Chinese city.

One of my long term concerns is that the strong correlative feedback between culture and genetics has left Russia, and to some extent all of eastern Europe and central Asia with major genetic influences of Genghis Khan and his army. This has left, according to my Romanian friend, the incidence of psychopathic tendencies at as much as 25% of the male population in those regions. If true, even 100 years of forced/encouraged "liberal values" and governance may not change the culture and habits of the people. They may still be strongly attracted to brutal, domineering, psychopathic leaders and fall back into the Imperial mindset as soon as they are allowed to.

Actually - I've known Trump my entire adult life going back from the 70s. What they fear is Trump doing exactly what he says. He's very predictable. Go back 40 years - it's the same message. None of these ideas are his. Every president since the 1970s has signed off on building a border wall Including Democrats

The way people who don't like Trump perceive him is always funny to me. They always dismisses him as sort of a bumbling idiot who isn't very sophisticated and is easy to manipulate. That's really not true. It is true that if you come at Trump, you're dead to him. That's it, he'll seek to destroy you. On the other hand, his policy positions he is transparent about, and he tries to achieve. Which is a breath of fresh air, compared to what most normal politicians do, which is state a position and do the opposite a lot of the time, or they just don't pursue the things people care about at best. Trump is a lot more savvy than his critics give him credit for. He wouldn't be as successful as he is in real estate, TV, and politics, if he were a bumbling fool. Everything with Trump is positioning, to achieve his goals.

He was more successful as a celebrity and The Apprentice star than he ever was at real estate. From his birth he had a trust fund and was earning more than some executives. His golden cushion ensured that he could toss money about like a manic fly and take the wins and losses. Even so the losses outweighed the wins. Read Lucky Loser. I'm always surprised by how unquestioning and much the people who support him over estimate his abilities and believe the PR myth. It is true that he says what he's going to do but he uses unconstitutional means to achieve it and his policies will destroy the US. Very funny and makes me laugh how gullible voters are.
