This Metro electric start 6/1 lister slow speed diesel has been built into a 4500 watt genset. The engine runs at 740 rpm and uses a Grundfos Hot water pump as a coolant pump, Dual powered radiator fans, and a custom built shutdown system made from components made by Murphy Switch.

I've got the same engine with starter and gear wheel. Starter is acting up, any idea what sort of motor it is, what to get as a spare? Dealer in Maine I got it from, is out of business.

Look up PowerLine in India - ask for Atou. - he will either tell you where you can get the parts over here in North America if that's where you're at or at worst you can order the parts directly from him in India- if you can' find the information on the net to email them the number is, [phone] - 812362192 - if you don't have international calling with your phone provider you'll have to get an add-on for a month they're generally about $4 they'll ask you what country that you're calling and you can get an add-on it's generally going to be 250 to 450 International minutes then you can call him- if you're calling from the states they're roughly 12 hours difference between central standard time here so 9 in the evening here is 9 in the morning over there I hope this will help you they know who I am- you have to arrange payment with them if you're sending them a check you have to register it or it won't get to them if the parts are lightweight they generally just air freighted to you

Regardless of the 740 RPM or 600 RPM The generator turns at 1800 RPM. because of the two step pulley system

If you're running the engine at 650 RPMs there is a slight fluctuation in voltage or the RMS- if you're using a serpentine belt as in that case there's not that much fluctuation if you want to further eliminate the fluctuation you can add a flywheel to the generator head and it will take out a lot of the RMS fluctuation- that particular engine can be converted from a 6 horsepower to A 8 hp horsepower engine relatively easily - at 8 horsepower you would run the engine at 850 RPMs with an added flywheel weight to the generator head there's very little noticeable fluctuation of the RMS a matter of fact it's cleaner then a single cylinder 3600 RPM engine- there are tens of thousands of those engines running around the world 24 hours a day 7 days a week the ones used for continuous AC or alternating current are generally set up at 850 RPMs the ones used for battery charging are set up from 500 RPMs to 650 RPMs at 6:50 there is a slight bit of ripping in the RMS and 500 RPMs it's a 4 horsepower engine there is quite a bit of Ripple but it doesn't really much matter when it comes to battery charging- at 8 horsepower it's not a good idea to exceed 2800 watts at 6 horsepower it's not a good idea to exceed 2000 Watts Inn at 4 horsepower it's not a good idea to exceed 1200 watts- the engine needs an extra 2.5 horsepower or 1 KW to run properly without lugging or having voltage drops - if you want 1000% clean RMS then you would go to a two cylinder instead of a 1 cylinder in many cases you will see 2 cylinder engines instead of one that doubles the KVA that means the maximum output it has for 1 minute as for starting electric motors and delivers very clean RMS with no voltage Ripple but it's substantially increases your fuel consumption having two cylinders instead of one

I work in the offshore oil field and Mountain oil fields for decades-- if an engine was running right off of a well in many cases they don't care how much fuel it burns but what they do care about is how often they have to be rebuilt an engine that runs at 850 RPM has to be rebuilt every 5 years where's an engine that runs at 650 RPMs has to be rebuilt after 8 years and a 500 RPM engine run about a decade between rebuilds that's 24 hours a day 7 days a week the engines that ran at 60 RPMs could go 25 years between rebuilds- what is a general rule if you want little to no Ripple you use a serpentine belt and a flywheel on the generator head on single-cylinder engines but if you wanted no ripple at all you have to go with at least a two cylinder engine- all the early power plant engines that used reciprocating engines generally went with at least three cylinder engines to eliminate any Ripple coming out of the generator head- that also doubles and triples the KVA of the single cylinder engine but it also increases the fuel consumption of the engine- generally a 3 to 6 cylinder engine runs at 277.5 RPMs so a 3 cylinder turning at 277.5 is equal to a single cylinder engine running at 835.5 rpms - generally a single-cylinder engine turning at 850 RPMs puts out very clean power that won't damage sensitive Electronics and will hold 59 to 61 Hertz with out any problems- most of the sale of those engines are in Europe- Europeans are big on CHP units that means combination Heating and Power- instead of burning oil in a furnace the oil runs A-listroid driving a generator head - the engines hot water its pumped through radiators throughout a home if the home needs added Heat and they're not using the energy off the generator has to increase the heating output of the engine they just send more power into the grid that's accepted by the grid or they add more resistive load to the generator that raises the water temperature coming off the engine and also the heating elements increase the BTUs needed on the hot water system- of all the CHP system sold in Europe that listeroid engine it's considered to be one of the most efficient CHP units available in Europe- also much of the energy they produce is sold back to the grid the generators are directly phased into the grid- they're so little Ripple in the RMS that the power companies readily accept the power generated by those engines and Generator heads

Hopefully this will resolve your thoughts about the voltage fluctuation of those engines and generators there's one in Poland that has been used as a CHP since 1946 and there's thousands of them in Europe that have been used as CHP for many decades now porch wise there are extremely inexpensive to maintain and they're extremely fuel-efficient
