WHAT DOES A MOISTURISER DO?
Alright, let’s start with the very basics. What function does the moisturiser play? Well, to answer that question, let us explain something that happens to your skin after you’ve washed your face. Remember that dry, stretchy feeling you get after you’ve pat your face dry? That’s called trans-epidermal water loss, and it happens when the moisture from your epidermis (i.e., the water) evaporates, taking the moisture within your epidermis with it. Constant TEWL will lead to dry, itchy, flaky skin, and also impair your skin barrier severely.
Now, it’s not the case that moisturizers stop your skin from TEWL completely, since you are constantly losing tiny percentages of water the whole day thanks to environmental changes, masks, sweat, etc. moisturizers simply slow down this water loss and aim to preserve as much moisture as they can in your skin. Moisturizers are typically made of the following trifecta of ingredients:
Humectants: these grab the moisture present in the environment around you and deliver to your skin, thus trapping it there. Since they can also be counterproductive in that they might suck up the moisture from within your skin, it’s important to apply humectants on damp skin. Example: hyaluronic acid, glycerin.
Occlusives: these slow down the degree of TEWL by trapping the moisture using a thin coating of oil. Water stays trapped since oils and water do not mix. Example: petroleum jelly, facial oils.
Emollients: emollients fill in any gaps on the epidermis, working to make it softer, smoother and more flexible, thus aiding in skin barrier repair. Although they don’t have much to do with the actual moisture content of the skin, they work in tandem with the above two ingredients. Example: vitamin E (tocopherol), jojoba oil.

I had tried so many moisturizers but they didn't work that way which i want nd at last i like ponds cold cream it works for me all the time i apply this at night then vaseline jelly to seal the moisture nd in day i use aloe gel nd i feel so moisturized one ques regarding aloe gel as we use cream then i feel moisture on the surface of the skin but in case of aloe i feel soft nd smoth but matte feeling like i've applied nothing so is it necessary to feel moisture on the surface???

Binge watching your videos but this particular video has my heart! As I used to wonder if I am the only odd one who likes these inexpensive heritage brands so much so that in comparison the newer home grown more advanced brands fare poorly! Ponds Light moisturiser is my all time favourite, never letting me down ! One single moisturiser works as my face cream, body lotion and foot cream all together! And for chapped and rough lips, nothing works for me except good old Vaseline! Beautiful video which validated my belief in these old brands! Keep doing the great work dear!👍👌
