Of their nominees the ones I think deserve to get in right away are Carole King, Kate Bush, Fela Kuti, Iron Maiden, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, New York Dolls, Devo, and The Go-Go's. There are some other worthy names on their list but imo they should have to wait a little longer because there's already backlog of great names. Acts like Jethro Tull and Blue Oyster Cult should go in first.

I'd probably add Jay-Z to that list. Much more influential to hip hop as a genre and on the business side of things than Jethro Tull and BOC were on rock. And maybe LL Cool J, though I am not familiar enough with his impact on the development of hip hop . Same with Mary J Blige, I don't know if she's just popular, or if she was especially influential in the development of modern r&b.

Listened to some of the same albums last week -- The Staves -- Good Woman: I think they came out of the Mumford neo-roots wave of the 00s, and are going for a poppier, Haim-esque feel here, but the studio production (via John Congleton) is seems blown out and steroidal, in a way that does the angelic vocals of this trio a real disservice... (3.25 / 5) Black Country, New Road -- For the First Time: BCNR never less than highly listenable, unsettling, epic -- although singer's quavering, unstable speak-singing delivery can be sometimes excessive; he really sets a scene, but the writing sometimes verges on overly-clever. This album mostly collects their earlier singles, with three new songs tagged on -- they've done a noticeable rewrite on "Sunglasses", mostly for the better (less unhinged)... Musicianship is stellar -- really managing to shape and embody the tense narrative of the songs. Certainly among the best of the new batch of young British bands (Black Midi, Shame, Dry Cleaning)... Hall of Fame: really, who cares -- it's a cash grab, and an industry circle jerk all at once. I think channels like yours do a far better job of putting the best of the last 50+ years of popular music in perspective, and paying tribute to those records that have stood the test of time, and bringing increasing attention to contemporary artists worth a listen, such as Weather Station. Check that new Besnard Lakes album when you get a chance -- some widescreen psych-pop for ya, like Brian Wilson on DMT...

Go back to what original rock and roll was. Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Johnny Cash, etc. These artists mix a little rockabilly, r&b, and country. I reviewed Foo Fighters already www.allmusic.com/album/medicine-at-midnight-mw0003449451/user-reviews gave it 3 stars but tendency is to Kramzer's 2 1/2. Maybe I will never go back to it to change it. I was one of those who recommended Weather Station, so I am astonished you liked it too. My new recommendation for this weak is this: 4 1/2 stars for United State of Mind (Robin Trower, Maxi Priest, Livingstone Brown) - for those you struggle with the name, Robin Trower was the lead guitarist for British legendary band Procol Harum who went solo in the mid 70s and Bridge of Sighs, Twice Removed From Yesterday and Robin Trower Live are great classic rock albums that have lost nothing of their fascination to this day. He continued to record blues based albums - some with Cream's Jack Bruce - through the decades, some pretty good some just average. "For a man at 75, Trower is pretty active and productive still. After his splendid 2019 album Coming Closer to the Day he now teams up with two other elder statesmen of British rock: Maxi Priest and Livingstone Brown. The team may on first glance come unexpected but it works very well. Trower's guitar is all atmosphere, tone and texture - Priest's silky vocals are pure soul here - Brown's production is based on natural instruments and shows him as a master to add horns, strings and percussion where needed. B.B. King's Completely Well from 1969 came to my mind, which already means quite something. The nine tracks with Priest take Trower out of his comfort zone of slow blues and challenge him like his great singers did way in the past (he handled the vocals himself on most of his more recent albums). And he proves that he is up to the challenge. The album is an example that handmade music based on blues and soul is still capable to produce albums of great emotional depth and great individual performances. A very nice surprise."

Can we just change the Hall's name to the _Modern Popular Music_ Hall of Fame already? 🙄 If a Hip-Hop Hall of Fame was ever started, would people be OK about Iron Maiden being a nominee? Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Have you guys ever looked at all those who won over the years? James Brown, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson, The Drifters, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, The Impressions... Very many since the beginning has very little to do with rock and roll in the terms of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. It would have been better off being just "Music Hall of Fame". Talking about Jay-Z or LL Cool J as "not supposed to be there" is beating a dead horse. For me the obvious pick this year in a rock and roll sense would be Iron Maiden. A band that started from scratch, was the forefront of a big movement and kept on ever since for better or worste. I am not sure how big they really are in the U.S. now but in the rest of the world they sell out huge arenas. They have sold more than many others already in the Hall of Fame as well. Hall of Fame must realize that metal and all kinds of subgenres has been the main rock thing now for decades. All the old bands are still going on and some like Foo Fighters, The Darkness and Queens of the Stone Age are still doing pretty well but overall it's metal most of the way. To not have Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth and others in the Hall of Fame soon is just ignorant. Can't say I am very thrilled about the new Foo Fighters record "Medicine At Midnight". They try to shake things up but like Kramzer says it sort of just feels the same anyway. I started with Foo Fighters around "There is Nothing Left to Lose" and liked them plenty as young. They have tried being harder, doing acoustic stuff and they do have their fair share of big hits but they also have quite much filler and bland stuff. None of their three latest records has been of any bigger interest for me. It's "okay" at best and nothing I need to own. Happy to see The Band winning. Very much to do with Bob Dylan but for those who don't know - The Band was their own thing with three different singers and a sound rather different than Bob Dylan or just about anything. When Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Vanilla Fudge, Deep Purple and others was headed one way... The Band took a slight detour but it has aged very well I'd say. Definitely easier a listen than much from Bob Dylan.
