I’m guessing Pornography is your favourite album- nothing wrong with that! My sense was that the two guys putting the video together had only listened to the singles, the Head on the Door and Kiss Me. Although The Cure do good singles, their albums are their real strength in my estimation

Honestly, if I never hear 'Friday I'm In Love' again in my life...I'm good. I liked it at one point, but I've just heard it way too much over the years. I tend to prefer darker Cure over offbeat Cure, so my list has multiple songs with those really long intros that Joe hates. 10. Maybe Someday 9. Burn 8. 10:15 Saturday Night 7. Fascination Street 6. Charlotte Sometimes 5. Disintegration 4. In Between Days 3. Boys Don't Cry 2. Just Like Heaven 1. A Forest Honorable Mentions: Push; Why Can't I Be You?; To The Sky; A Night Like This; and The Hanging Garden
@etamommy29 күн бұрын
I love the long intros because I tend to marvel that they are so memorable and rhythmically and melodically captivating and they build so well until the vocal melodies arrive which I think generally then catapult the songs skyward. Push, though not a typical example in that I think it is more uptempo does this brilliantly. I generally do not like long intros or instrumentals but with the cure I do?!??

So i quess i'm in another mood...First of all in my opinion the album "Pornography" is one of the greatest albums of all times. So songs like 100 years, The figure head, Siamese twins or A Strange day are on the top of my list of Cure's best songs. Some others...A Forest, Charlotte sometimes, A night like this, M, Play for today. Also another song (not so popular for many people) that i really love is "Αt night" from 17sec album. The Hanging Garden I didn't want to be rude, but I emailed Pere Ubu to let them know that 'Bus Station' from Carnival of Souls (2014) sounds a lot like 'Scream' from 4:13 Dream (2008). Mine have changed so much over the decades-mostly colored by seeing the songs live and audience interaction. “Play for Today” is a pretty barebones early song, but it was brought to life to me seeing them perform it live last summer. in Chicago. The handclaps and people singing “again and again and again” make a “A Forest” tons of fun, especially when I had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see them in Dublin. People had those handclaps DOWN. Such an appreciative audience! They hadn’t played there in ages and audience were mostly people who remembered them from back in the day. People stood in stunned silence after they finished (with “Boys Don’t Cry), with tears streaming down their face. When Wish came out, I wondered if it was too arena rock after Disintegration, especially FTEOTDGS, which I loved. Then I saw them perform it in 1992 and many times since. I was happy that it has become a concert staple for the last 32 years. Also bcs I was part of the gen when MTV played music videos, my opinions are influenced by the great videos of Tim Pope. One song that is a personal favorite that didn’t make best albums list because it’s on Mixed Up is “Never Enough”-a straight-up psychedelic rocker. The video is amazing, as is the one for “Close to Me.” These used to all be only on a DVD called “Show” and the vids were impossible to find online (until companies realized that YT was actually very good for promotion). My very favorite is not surprising: “Just Like Heaven” is one of the greatest songs ever written (Rick Beato’s discussion of it is fun.) Never a fan of “Friday I’m in Love,” but I’m not a big pop person. It is undeniably a perfect pop song. I just like that the pop songs exist b/c they broaden the band’s appeal and show RS’s incredible songwriting ability. I can point to them and say, “See? They’re not a goth band!” “Lullaby” is another of their concerts-and an awesomely creepy video. I fell in love with Endsong, again seeing it live outside in Chicago on a magical night. The drums are amazing. The song, and all of the songs on the new album, are pretty grim. But they are about old. Turning 60 is a shocking. It just is. Not surprising RS’s songs are reflecting this stage of his life. I urge EVERYBODY to see them live. I enjoyed the last few years of their concerts way more than back in late ‘80s early ‘90s.

A forest I remember I liked The Cure in the beginning because of Boys don´t cry , then in 1982 a schoolmate of mine lent me their album from that year and god , that was too dark for me . I synced again with them with the Head on the Door , but again Kiss Kiss Kiss Me was a bit irregular and too long, good but not exceptional apart from the well known songs . It was a band for me with highs and lows , more brilliant in singles than in albums, probably because their albums did not have enough variety of styles . Today I liked them more than ever , but I am not sure if this is related to their music or actually to some kind of awkward nostalgia since they represent how unique, smart and defiant were some bands in the 80s.

Guys go back and listen to "Icing Sugar". Holy moley where does this song come from???? That bassline; those toms!!! And it works so so well! Def top 5 for me. The Kiss also, its like Night on Bald Mountain: so dark and evil but so captivating. And like NOBM from Fantasia that exit dropping the wah and lingering on the Dm to resolve with the synth and guitars is like the sun coming up and the bells tolling. It is def one of the most emotional experiences out there in the way of instrumentation. Just 2 chords (Dm - BbMaj7) and we are wrecked Also you can see all the like-mind down here as ALL the Cure Fans from my era (Im 50, so like 48-55) Disintegration is ALWAYS number 1! Hola mi amigos! Don’t worry my Man I’ll keep it copacetic, my last message was misinterpreted, algorithms can at times be askew take you where you NEVER want to be. Have always loved Robert Smith, he’s one of those vocalists whose voice you can’t confuse with others because it’s so original, just like Bowie. Joe, really? “Pictures of You” such a great Love song. What I noticed with his lyrics they can be beyond sad like “Letter to Elise” perfect tragic love song, could there be a better kind of love song? Then juxtaposed other lyrics are seemingly at odds with the music- “In Between Days” sad lyrics but music so buoyant uplifting. “Close to Me” Pop perfection but “Just like Heaven” so good, “Show me Show me Show me that trick” Please keep doing what you do it’s always educational and truly that’s why I’m here…

the use of days of the week, or months in a year, is a classic medieval Gothic literary device. the middle ages, and the Gothic period, were considered barbaric starting with the Renaissance and the return to classical antiquity, humanism, etc, and did not become worthy of consideration again until early 1800s romanticism, when ghosts and demons etc - as signifiers of the irrational after the 'age of reason' - make a comeback, largely due to the desire on the part of the children of bourgeois families to demonstrate their contempt for the teachings of the church - but also an inverted compliment that is parasitic on what it criticizes
