Can you believe it that I was taught this song at Kindergarten in Africa 30 years ago? It just rang in my head today, looked for it on KZbin and here we are! Oh memories!

My Dad once told me hed had the pleasure of meeting Lita when he was doing his national service in the 50's. She made such an impact on him. He cherished the meeting and fondly remembered her all his life. Thank you for the posting.

Used to sing this in elementary school class. Noboby but skilled jazzmen can liven up an otherwise plain vanilla but cute song. If it weren't for jazz musicians, america's song book may have been forgotten. So underated an unappreciated in america, but overseas... given their due.

I was today years old when I found this song. The first line and much of the second line are used in The Railway Series story *Bertie's Chase* and the Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends episode of the same name.

My mum used to sing a version of this to me and my siblings when we were wee and were crying. She’d bundle us up cuddling in and sing it until we stopped crying or fell asleep… it ended up that she could sing it and then we would end up crying for no reason… not wails but gentle sobs. Now I don’t know if I cry because crying to the song is so ingrained in me or of its because she is gone

Hey, that's Pi Scheffer who waves the baton! If I am correct he used to a high school teacher, but he became a gifted arranger for Dutch radio orchestras and for some time he led a group that played Charleston songs: the OK Wobblers.
