This is the full recording of the livestream demonstration by Angela Fehr for Opus Art Supplies, originally aired on Zoom, December 15 2023.
‪@opusartsupplies‬ invited me to share a demonstration of my watercolour landscape painting process.
In this demo I'm sharing the open-ended process that I use to create intuitive, abstracted landscape paintings. I'm using a "whole package" reference photo in this session, which creates its own kind of tension and you'll see here just how difficult it can be to let go of expectations and create a painting that carries its own kind of life and expression.
This conversation about process and finding space for your artist's identity and voice alongside your growth in skill and technique is the focus of my online courses at www.heartledar...
The new course intake for the 4 week course, the Heart-Led Artist Pathway, starts January 3, 2024. Join us and learn how to structure a thriving and deeply personal artistic practice!

Angela what an incredible video. You dove right into the same issues I had for years. I too have been painting for 30yrs & to hear you out loud, express the same issues just warmed my heart. Bless you ❤

I was so inspired by this, mostly because it served as a reminder that very little goes as we expect it to, but that can serve us magical opportunities to veer into new terrain. It takes an incredible amount of bravery to be this open and honest and it is so greatly appreciated by all of us who have a messy, open-ended artistic practice.

Lovely to see how this creative process unfolds! 🎨💫 Watercolor is my go-to tool for abstract paintings, and as an artist, it's crucial to let creativity flow and experiment with different styles and ideas. Thanks for sharing! ✨

This was a beautiful session, Angela. Over the years as you've explained how watercolor was leading you, how your goals were changing, you've actually shown the real, difficult letting go process your heart-led practice requires. I can't tell you how powerful and exciting and authentic that has been. As you finished this demonstration and changed camera view, your face reflected those things. I think you demonstrate the true heart of what it means to teach.

I'm amazed that after the years you've been doing this, you still feel vulnerable. I guess that's the hardest part of being an artist, the raw feeling of showing your art to others who may or may not get you. That "imposter syndrome" we all secretly harbor. Excellent lesson, thanks Angela!♥

I love that phrase ‘a recovering perfectionist’. So hard to overcome and loosen up. I know. Thanks Jo in France 🇫🇷

Very interesting listening and watching your thought process. I have a question about your paper. I’ve always used the Arches 140lb, as you are using here. However, all this summer and fall I found that the paper was drastically buckling and behaving like the worst student grade. So many failures, partially caused by equipment (the paper) has caused me to lose my confidence. Has anyone else noticed a change in paper quality in the last year or so?

I have heard about it...but taping it down...is always best...then an iron after the fact!...Fabriano ARTISTICO...seems to buckle MORE...in the moment...but dries much flatter when it eventually drys.
