I’ve watched this a few times and I can’t get enough of those super defined Pour lines. If you could recreate this every time this would be the new top seller in the gold market for everyone hahaha.

@@LithicMetalsI love all of your videos. I'm starting to get in to gold / silver melting. I'm a professional treasure hunter. I was just wondering where can I get those 2 metal tweezers / tongs at. That you use for poring your crucible and the other one that you pick up your bar up with. Thank you so very much for any help.

Just watched the whole hour! It took a few good tries but the effort was worth it! It turned out beautifully. Great job 🙂👁

Neither had I! And to be honest, I think it was the most beautiful thing I ever poured. A big part of me wishes I would have just walked away and thought about it more. However, the end result was still very satisfying :)

That was just awesome! Loved your determination to get it just right.. I recently poured a 1.5 ozt silver bar and I got a similar result as your 1st pour, one end almost looks layered....I’ve never been able to get my pour to do it again.........It’s all in the temperature 😁. Thanks again for sharing

The end result was fantastic, but seeing as how it was your first 10 oz bar I don't think I could have re-melted the actual first pour. The cooling lines in the voids were out of this world, and very unlikely to have a repeat pour such as that one. Two thumbs up.

Man I watched all of this and missed something else I had to do. That was just EPIC. When heating the mould could you maybe rearrange the torch angle so it hits the middle and not an end. Just daft suggestion, or torch from directly above ? either way LOVLEY
@LithicMetals4 жыл бұрын
On a regular 1oz pour the torch angle is perfect, but this big old thing presented me with a few unexpected challenges lol

Hi Shane, I sell pretty exclusively in Goldbugs. A fb precious metals group. Unfortunately it's been getting harder and harder to get in. I've built a quick website a couple weeks ago. Eventually I'll add a store to it to offer an occasional item :) Thanks so much for the Sub!!! It's def appreciated!

Just out of curiosity, would it be easier to just melt it in a mold inside a high heat oven furnace? It more than likely wouldn't have the poor lines though. I guess I need to research the look of a silver bar done in an oven. I guess that would be just a cast bar. Thx for sharing!
@LithicMetals4 жыл бұрын
Easier... yes! But as you mentioned, you wouldn't get the surface that I'm looking for. Plus lol it's just not as much fun! :)

I've never poured a metal in my life but speaking as a physicist I can certainly see a decent temperature difference on the right side of that mold. Bear with me and remember this is just my opinion and you know they say about those. lol I'm putting this out more for anyone else's benefit because I know you know this already. I believe the heating torch was at too oblique of an angle and the speed of the burning gas in that flame draws a significant amount of cool, outside air right down the edge. Especially with a flame that isn't somewhat diffuse. I believe if the torch had been more perpendicular (pointing more straight down) and perhaps a bit more diffuse flame and that pour would have been amazing. Judging from what I could see of the metal in the pour I believe you had your temps amazingly close to perfect. The metal ran like water into the mold there was just that bit of cool air getting drawn into that far right edge that made all of that difference. Something sort of cool happened also, the shape of the void in that first pour was the shape of the air vortex blowing around in that mold. The actual air movement frozen in time. Man, that bar is gorgeous. Hubba hubba shiny. It's amazing to hold something like that, isn't it? Five stars.

I love your sense of observation ut000bs! Flame placement... temperature, angle, the size of the flame, the distance, gas pressure... all play a factor in the final result. I continue to learn with every pour! As a great lover of physics myself, it's fun to not only imagine the air flow, but also the flow of the material itself. I love diving into the piece and envisioning the atoms as they freeze into place. Atoms chasing after their goal as the molten liquid pool shrinks moment by moment. Aerodynamics / fluid dynamics... I may be slacking on the math, but not the imagination! Thanks for the great comment!

Im still new to this aspect of silver and gold but I see it as a future hobby for sure maybe even a side hustle. Can I ask, did you lose any weight each time you melted it down again?
@LithicMetals3 жыл бұрын
Silver... yes. Doing the same thing with silver, I may have lost a few thousandths of an ounce... due to the evaporating oxides. But with gold... No. I've never seen a measurable loss by remelting and pouring.

You should have melt it back while everything was still hot especially the ingot why not a little grease in the mold
@LithicMetals2 жыл бұрын
I wasn't really worried about the extra gas to melt it down. However I do try to remelt them when they're hot when I can. No grease is needed for a graphite mold.
