In this series we started Part 1 with a small batch of misc scrap silver. We chemically digested it into solution and filtered out waste material. In the following videos we covered cementing the silver out of solution, melted it into shot, and finished with Part 6... where we fired up a small silver cell and washed our fresh .999 pure silver crystal.

Nice job on your video and explanation! I’ve been watching Sreetips and Aquilla Refining for the last 7 to 8 years and am interested in doing the same ASAP. Just got 4 liters of nitric and now I’m looking into getting a power supply and some lab ware so I can make a cell. I will be using either an electric furnace or a Devils Furnace from Lithuania for melting. I still have a ways to go before I can do all these things but I’m working on it as $$$ allows. I can wait until I can start refining and getting my stack on. Cheers

Wondered over here from a streetips SilCel vid minutes ago and I noticed your dc power supply is the same as his 🧐the teal label at the top is what caught my eye lol. I always find something small or odd that'll catch my eye and fixate on it. I mean you two are never in the same place at the same time.... Both are master metal recovery/refining savages. Or it's a common power source and happen to have the same one. Also I follow you on TikTok too and had to comment when I seen you use Knipex pliers on the pours😆 I have several pairs myself. I was hoping you could tell me what material you use for the anode basket. I know Sreetips uses vacuum bags, but I hoping to buy the material in bulk from a fabric store. I think that I heard somewhere to use Dacron? Thanks for your help! GREAT video!!
@LithicMetals
@LithicMetals 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you'll find it at a fabric store, more like a laboratory supply store. Yes Dacron is the best material to use... that I've tested. In an upcoming series I'm going to go over the dacron material I'm using now. The vacuum bags let a fair amount of small particles fall through, which essentially contaminates the Ag. I now use a .5 micron dacron material that is apx an 1/8th inch thick. I buy it in bulk off Amazon. It really traps those small particles and still allows for good flow of the solution.

@@LithicMetals Just a quick update in my quest for Dacron in bulk. Fabric stores don’t necessarily carry it so that may be a waste of time. Through some research I found that sailmakers use Dacron fabric, so I ordered a bit. Turns out that sailmaking fabric is heavily impregnated with some kind of plastic? layers, which makes it impermeable (makes sense). I ended up finding out that some table cloths and shower curtains are make from Dacron...I found both at my local Goodwill for about $4 each. They have different weaves, but I think both will be useful. Maybe this helps others and saves money. I’m sure the cost of vacuum bags adds up quick.

Hey there, I watched the whole series and liked it! I was wondering what would happen if you used a perforated stainless steel basket as the anode, delete the silver anode bar and wrap the basket in dacron to keep the slimes out out of the electrolyte. My idea was you could submerge and dissolve the silver shot and not worry about dissolving the silver anode bar. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos before I try some refining myself. But I won't start till I have a fume hood. Did you buy your fume hood or make your own? Used hoods cost alot, but I found acid fume filters for sale and was thinking of rigging something together.
@LithicMetals
@LithicMetals 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! Yes, I did make my own fume booth. I respect the fact that you're note doing these types of experiments without one! I like the idea of a stainless basket, I've been hunting for one actually... glass too, I used to use a glass one. I don't think I'd like to close off the basket, I like to monitor things... plus I continuously feed it so... Thanks so much for the feedback!
