Not about this video but thought you and viewers may be interested. Recall: BOOW - LiFePO4 Leisure Battery. Two versions of 12V 100Ah lithium deep cycle battery, one with a yellow label and one with a blue label. Both with identical markings and labelling apart from the background of the label. Recall due to poor construction and no BMS. Can't put a link as I don't think they work on posts, but a quick Google gives all the details. Keep up the good work.

Actually, the coin battery is in a typical PCB mounted cell holder. Looks like they dabbed a bit of silastic (adhesive) on it for vibration protection. Should be easy to peel off the silastic and replace the cell. If you look closely, most of the components that have any size or weight over that of the SMT components are staked to mitigate vibration damage.

The button battery is most like a rechargable to hold data for a time without power. Have seen in some things like my old vcr, a couple times it went to other than english and had to wait for about 24 hours with it unpluged to reset, after a few years it happed again but only took like 8 hours to discharge. I think if it stopped working, it would just lose data if it gets unpluged and has no power.
@LithiumSolar
@LithiumSolar Жыл бұрын
That's exactly the concern - whether or not that button cell is responsible for storing the BMS settings that will be lost once it dies. I'll have to do some more testing.
@putteslaintxtbks5166
@putteslaintxtbks5166 Жыл бұрын
@LithiumSolar I would think the only time the button battery would be used to back up data would be if the 48v battery bank was disconected or the bank went to near 0 volts and that shouldn't ever happen under normal use unless left for a real long time in storage (years?).
@hubertnnn
@hubertnnn Жыл бұрын
@@putteslaintxtbks5166 I think a more likely scenario when the button battery will be used is when the BMS decides to shut down the main battery for any reason (overvoltage, overtemp, etc.), since at that point the battery should not be drained even by the BMS itself, so the BMS switches to backup power from the button battery so it can continue to run.

@5400bowen
@5400bowen 11 ай бұрын
Might want to ad a clip set up to hold the handle away from the connections. I would simply remove the handles. The folding would make it harder to carry it anyway, and I’m not planning on toting them around anyway. Get them out of the box and put them in the mounting location and remove the handles or fasten them down with any number of methods. Sure, batteries can have issues requiring service, but a properly sized and installed system shouldn’t need any service for a long time. Unless you are constantly modifying your system, and even that is not likely to require dismounting and remounting batteries. I really like the readouts and the label you said you don’t see elsewhere.

Been looking hard at purchasing these as they are really cheap if you get free shipping. One thing that has come up. They advertise that they communicate with all kinds of inverters. I have a victron multiplus and when I asked about it to make sure it would, they were less sure. Asked if Victron has a way to select certain battery manufacturers. Victron says no, there is no selection of a battery. Victron does have a list of Batterys that are approved and work with system. Sungold is not on it. Victron said their may be a work around but not info for that on Sungold specs. Sungold said I should just buy the batteries victron recommends
@LithiumSolar
@LithiumSolar Жыл бұрын
I think the way it works with most of these batteries are the BMS company programs certain protocols in the BMS, then the battery manufactures are all using the same BMS and advertising inverter support based on popular protocols (like pylontech). I don't think most (any?) of these battery manufacturers actually test themselves based on my past experience with a select few. If you need the communication with Victron, I personally would not buy one unless someone can confirm it works. Unfortunately, I don't have any Victron inverters to test with and be able to answer that question. My opinion is that they should not be advertising support if they have not validated it themselves.
@squarpeg
@squarpeg Жыл бұрын
@@LithiumSolar agreed on the false advertising end of things. I am questioning whether I need the communication link at all. Personally I do not quite understand what exactly I get from the inverter/charger communicating to the battery. Obviously that is not a requirement. I was looking at the cheap SOK battery. it doesn't have a communication feature. What do you need it for? I mean, your setting the charging parameters somewhere right? and this battery does have it's own screen where you can check state of charge and such. What is so important that you get from one of these closed loop communication links?
@squarpeg

@@LithiumSolar Just a follow-up to this thread. This morning I received an e-mail from Sungold support stating they have confirmed with their engineers that the Victron inverter protocols are included in this battery and that they have tested it with a Victron inverter. When you are dealing with Sungold support you are obviously dealing with a Chinese person. English is their second language and my guess is the person you are having technical discussions with was hired for their language skills. This person is not an actual engineer or even an advanced technical person. So anything complicated is going to involve someone whos first language is not english translating to someone in chinese and then getting their response and translating back to english. It is easy to see how hard it might be to get correct answers. I am hoping for the best. .

@@squarpegthe charger has most of the info, I agree, who needs to know if the battery likes chocolate ice cream or vanilla? After much study and thought, the battery and inverter chargers like this both have their own parameter readout, and thus one will tell you everything you need to know. There are some shutdown parameters the inverter can read directly from the battery, but my old school Outback inverter and separate charge controller do allof the things I need, and are programmable as well. The new hybrid inverters automatically monitor battery parameters and can be set to do everything the communication between the devices do already. Aloha!.

Competition is good, but really matters is dependability/longevity. Because it's easy to drop $10K or more on batteries, this is what most people really care about, not how pretty the inside is..

I fully agree. These rack batteries all end up in my own off-grid setup and I'll be sure to report back any problems I encounter.

Usually, the coin batteries on circuit boards is for a memory of some sort. Sometimes it could be as little as just a clock.

Certainly it is the battery for the real time clock. It allows the BMS to time-stamp events such as faults and lifetime maximum and minimum cell voltages. Typically they have a 10-year life in these applications. Failure of the button cell shouldn't prevent the battery as a whole from workiing.
