Litjoy Shadow and Bone VS Owlcrate Who did it better?🦄📚🦉

💡The Litjoy edition did take a while to ship and I am still waiting for my books to arrive. But the details in the Litjoy edition are phenomenal, the slipcase is unique, and the illustrations of the clothes are the chef's kiss. My personal preference is Litjoy covers. I'm a Alina and Darkling fan, so I like that Litjoy chose colors that represented them. Also, the story is the dark versus the sun, so the covers fit that theme perfectly. I'm glad people had options and could pick the books that best fits their personal style. Once I receive my book, l'll let you know about the covers.

I find this set absolutely gorgeous and is probably the most beautiful I own. The slipcase alone blew my mind. The pages quality, the illustrations, the covers and foiling on hardback everything is stunning. I was also surprised by the material used for the dust jacket of the second book though, it is indeed very stiff. I emailed them to ask if this was normal and they answered it was intentional 💁‍♀️

The LitJoy books are definitely pretty and I like all the artwork, but I think I like the OwlCrate books better - I just love the color and sprayed edges on those. Oh, forgot to add, my favorite of the trilogy I think is the first one🦉

Oooo its hard to pick one over the other. The best feature of the Litjoy was probably the annotations from the author since that could be cannon extra details etc. but idk how much of it is across all three books, so I guess i wonder how much each was price-wise (if one was significantly more than the other). Otherwise both owlcrate and litcoy both have pretty illustrations sprinkled throughout. Owlcrate also gave some extra merch while Litjoy gave a key. Plus yeah the digital signature kinda cheapens it since you could print a digital signature 1000 or 100k times without much difference vs handwritten ones.

The author annotations were only in the first book of the LitJoy Shadow and Bone box set

@@CyrillicSanga oh really just the first one, that's kinda sad, it would be so cool if it was the whole series 🥲 just one book is more for the hype of saying it's an annotated series

Also, thinking about it more, it would kinda mess with the continuity of the trilogy if only one book is annotated... I think it's better what they did with the Shadowhunters series, where then she wrote the Shadowhunters Codex as more canon details for the world and that had some fun annotations/stuff written in the pov of the characters, plus it was added as another book to the box set or you could buy it by itself to add to your existing books

@@katheriner9194 the annotations are more about her thinking process throughout writing, it's not a companion guide with extra info about the world the way that the codex is. It's also not "annotated" by characters from the story like the way the Codex is annotated by Clary and Simon. Does that make sense? If you have insta I could DM you some pics of what the Shadow & Bone annotations are like, if you're curious

@@CyrillicSanga oh I see, that makes sense, still kinda sad she didn't talk about her writing process through all the books in the series, but at least it makes sense in the beginning to explain how she thought of the story

I'm crying because I missed these since I didn't even know about the various book clubs until fairly recently. And even then, only found two. Fortunately, I was able to get the Owlcrate Six of Crows. It was the first Leigh Bardugo book that I read, so I couldn't pass that up. The litjoy books look amazing, and I love the slipcase. Maybe one day, someone will do a reprint.

They're such beautiful editions 💕 I know what you mean I was finally able to buy the special edition of stalking Jack the Ripper from somebody on Marcari, hopefully you can find someone selling the trilogy if they don't do a reprint 😊📚

oh my gosh the resellers are so crazy!!! I've been trying so hard to find a fairyloot edition of Emily Wilds Encyclopedia of Fairies that isn't $160-$200 🙄

I have recently recieved my litjoy edition of shadow and bone and I had the same reaction to seige and storm's dustjacket being a different material. I have no idea why but I am glad I am not alone.

💡 though as i did not rewatch the Owlcrate video, I cannot say if this is accurate. But I do like the artwork and annotations however Owlcrate has better dust jackets, except for the first book, which is always my fav. Ruin and rising killed my interest in future books of the Grishaverse. And I wish the artwork for the Darkling would be the best of all. I mourned him.
