I have a 20+ old little chief top loader. To this day,even today,it did 3 full racks of smoked lake trout just like it did 20+ years ago. All my fish are done with Apple chips.

best lil smoker for the price.used it for years to make jerky and salmon .i use maple chips for both jerky and salmon.

Just picked up one of these smoker (brand new-second hand). Your salmon looks great. Any more advice on using the unit since you've had it? Seems pretty straight forward but would love any other tips or recipes. Cheers!

Your lucky you didn't break that glass table with the heating element on the bottom of the smoker. And you should brine your salmon before smoking so it's cured

not really, the chief smokers are low-temperature units so you can smoke fish for many hours without overcooking it. the downside to them is that you can't fully cook beef, pork, chicken, turkey, venison etc in them because they don't get hot enough to fully cook meats. but, you can smoke those meats in a chief smoker for 2-4 pans of chips and then finish them off in an oven, which i do all of the time.
