Hello Everyone,
+Apologies Everyone. My camera shut itself off halfway through the painting process and I didn't realize until it was complete.
+This is a fairly quick, sketch-based watercolor painting recorded in real time. In this video, I cover intention, interpretation, design, formatting, composition, values, drawing, perspective, etc.
+The scene is an interpretation of an intimate, quiet little corner in Rome .
Thanks for watching!
Tom
+This painting was done on Arches Watercolor Paper - rough surface - 300gsm :
+15x12 inches
+Pigments by Daniel Smith
+Brushes by Escoda and Neef
+Palette by House of Hoffman
+Sketch pencils by Blackwing and Faber-Castell
+Sketchbook by Stillman + Birn

Selfishly, so glad that the weather gods have chosen to give you some rain in NYC, as it means that we are benefiting from far more of your time being made available to provide us with these wonderful tutorials. Thank you so much, oh, and of course I do hope that it does eventually stop raining and allow you to paint outdoors.

Cat “ of course I’m the center of attention” Thank you for mentioning cruelty free brushes. 🙏🌱🐿️. There really are some good ones out there. Can’t wait for part 3!

Can we a still or short of the finished work ? The suspense is killing me. Especially about the cat. I’d go with a black silhouette with just his yellow eyes looking out.

My camera cut out just before the final 10 minutes of painting - I'm so sorry. But the thumbnail is the finished work

The composition of opposites is intriguing. It’s probably something I’ve thought of, but not been really conscious of. I’m going to pay more attention to that.

Your videos are not only insightful but also therapeutic. I do have a question, in the beginning when painting walls in midtone, how do you decide it’s okay to go over the plants where some light value and yellow-green colours might have to come in? It fascinates me how you confidently make these choices, but would love to know your thoughts behind them

Thanks so much - I have an overall value plan - where major lights and darks should likely be placed. So in this case it's ok to go over whole areas where only minor lights may need to show. Midtone darks are rarely so dark that all opportunities for minor lights are eliminated

It is disappointing and I apologize. I was just painting away and finished the painting before I realized the camera was tripped

Is it only me that I can't get this and some other videos of Thomas in horizontal/landscape format here?😢 Can anyone help me how to change this? I only see a cut out vertical video 😢😢😢

It is a vertically formatted painting, so it was loaded in the vertical format. All of the image is showing

I think, Tom, that maybe your little dog had something to do with the video just "shutting off" halfway 😉. My cat would have probably done the same thing if I started painting dogs...
