Davids son David Jr. attended the same middle school with me in Detroit. That was back in 79 or 80. He had a great voice then. Not sure if he got into the music biz like his dad. Haven't seen him since. He would be about 42 yrs old now.

Let's end the debate right now for this is the one and only David Ruffin singing his first record You and I in 1958 at the tender age at 17! The Ruffin family confirmed this and that's good enough for me!
@harolddottin102 жыл бұрын
This is not David Ruffin, Ruffin's family talking bull. This was Ruffin's stepfather who sang under the mantle Little David Bush. He also never wrote and sang the original Statue Of A Fool. There was a fake 45 record put under the title Statue Of A Fool ...Little David Bush. The original song was written by country writer Jan Crutchfield and went to no1 on the billboard chart in 1969 sung by Jack Greene. You will never see or hear a 50s version by Ruffin simply because it does not exist! if you cover the song you have to go through Jan Crutchfield.

@@harolddottin10 Actually David never had a stepfather. He had a stepmother tho from his dad’s marriage. Eddie Bush was his manager/guardian at the time. Without Mr. Bush we’d have no David Ruffin!

The people saying this is not David Ruffin obviously know nothing of music history. When he first started out he was known as "Little David Bush" and this is indeed him.

A lot of people don't believe it's David Ruffin because he had such a mature voice for a 17 year old.

This is definitely David, just listen to his song "Believe me" where he sings in this low voice and the gritty one we are accustomed to

Miquel Kustner and the falsetto he hits when they say "baby I love you so"
@imagine070187 жыл бұрын
I have to agree, for several reasons. For one, Eddie Bush is alleged to have confirm that it is David. It seems like he's going for Roy Hamilton here. And on "Believe Me," he seems to be going for Ray Charles. The key is slightly higher but the low notes are, like this one, out of his range, making him sound different that he does in his natural tenor range. Notably, he never denied it was him while he was alive. Clearly, he had reasons to disown this one. It is not uncommon for voices to sound totally different in different ranges, particularly when younger (e.g. Eddie Floyd with the Falcons vs his Stax stuff and Ben Aiken's falsetto on his early stuff and his natural tenor vocal on We're on the Right Track in the 70s). Finally, that can't be him doing the falsetto part on "The Way You Do The Things You Do," singing above Eddie Kendricks, could it? Yes, it is. That doesn't sound like him either. But it is. The bottom line is that he had the capabilities to sing anything in more than one style and range. Bottom line, he was that damn good.

Come on people. Anyone that thinks this is David Ruffin is totally unfamiliar with his voice. Listen to him on Temptations Sing Smokey, singing Who's Lovin' You and You'll Lose A Precious Love. That's how David sounded when he was young, before he started singing with the grit and rasp in his voice. Then listen to this guy, whoever he is. No way in hell is this David Ruffin.

I agree that ain't him David Ruffin got that Mississippi sound. this guy sound like he from up north.

oldschoolsinger you have to listen to his other pre temp songs. This definitely is David. It sounds different because he is singing in a low range, like in the beginning. The rest of the song sounds like him singing with the Voice Masters.

I thought the same thing the first few times that I listened to this song... However if you listen closely you can definitely hear certain points in this song that absolutely nobody but David Ruffin could have sang.. I believe that he was singing in a much lower key.. not sure why he would, perhaps he was influenced by a current singer of that time.. idk but I believe that this is actually Ruffin singing. He actually talks about his career before signing with the Tempt's on a interview that was included on his unsung video.

If you listen to the pronunciation and the diction, even some of the “woahhhhh” you can tell this is a young David! He said his sound was much more pop and polished early on.

Of course this is Ruff! Ruff was a Baritone. This is his actual range. The style has nothing to do with the voice...All you have to do is listen to the upper register if you can't distinguish him in his lower range..and his vowel tones are CLEARLY him...Those "let it be" lines at the end, especially...David Ruffin was one of the most versatile singers in music history. And to think he was a teenager here. Wow.

Yoy see, David could not resist the earthy sound when aloud to freelance. Even on "temptations in a mellow mood" He still does his thing. That is why this is not David Ruffin singing(you and I). Although Bush is his 1st mgr's last name, he may have song other songs under Little David Bush, but not this one.

I read comments before I commented. This does not sound like David Ruffin. Especially not what I was expecting. I was expecting a more youthful David obviously but not a straight tenor. I was looking for a little bit of rasp. Its not like he started singing with the Temptations when he was 40.
