Soooo goooood. Just impeccable acting, all around. “These _walls_ know it” gives me chills every time. And the absolute journey that Arthur goes through is so visible on his face. He goes from concerned to confused to bewildered to confused again to shocked and then a brief moment of doubt and denial before going back to shock and by the end of it he’s so on autopilot because he’s basically doing the human equivalent of buffering as he struggles to understand and process what he has just learned. Honestly his face is priceless. I would not be surprised to see a crack compilation of funny moments with that look featured in it and accompanied by like, dial-up modem sounds. 😂

Great performance. John Chivery is a testament to Dickens's genius, a figure of fun *and* truly sincere. Another very moving scene is at a society dinner when William Dorrit has a vision he is in the Marshalsea, and we see how all his pompousness has been an effort to conceal his fragility.

Heartbreaking and absolutely heartwrenching .. how can anyone watch this and not burst out in tears .. one of the best acted scenes in this incredible series .. Both actors were brilliant .. Russell Tovey makes your tears flow .. while Matthew MacFayden clearly was battling not to cry ., his agony for John`s pain dueling with his ecstasy with the realization that Amy loves him is found in his beautiful eyes ., the workings of his mouth as he silently forms the word me .. the incredulous expressions that flit across his face ,. And Matthew speaks softly and reins in his emotion so eloquently so that Russell can put all he has into this scene ., and that makes it even more effective .. then Arthur expresses all of this to John in that emotional handshake., brilliant .. oh so brilliant.. one if the best example of acting I have ever seen .. truly Bella primo this! Cannot say enough about the excellent and ethereal performances of each actor in this powerful and poignant series., To me this was Matthew MacFadyen at his finest ., he so deserved that award he was nominated for.. the performance of this beautiful man was beyond brilliant,,❣ Jen999💙

John would have made an amazing husband
@Emnms682 жыл бұрын
John is a true example of an actual real nice guy. He accepts that Amy loves Arthur and though he will always have a special place in his heart with her name carved into it, as he says, he harbors no I’ll will or resentment toward either of them. Even in this scene, part of what makes it so moving and so heartbreaking is that he isn’t angry with Arthur or hates him because Amy loves him instead of John, he’s upset with Arthur because Arthur has been oblivious to her feelings for him, and John knows that causes her pain. He wants the two of them to be happy together because he loves Amy and genuinely wants her to be happy, even if she finds it with someone else. That’s love right there. And that’s not to take away from the love that Amy and Arthur share either, it’s just funny how different a true gentleman handles rejection with grace is to how guys on the internet who call themselves “gentlemen” handle rejection so poorly.

And I’m sure John did make an amazing husband to someone at some point. Well, that’s what I like to think, anyway.

@@Emnms68 I think honestly, your prescription has really now just made my day! I thought for so long, John was confronting Arthur because he was jealous of him being with the girl he knew since childhood and that he told him that he also had feelings for her too. But since you pointed out that he wasn't, I completely understand now. I feel bad for John. Wish someone could make a sequel for Little Dorrit, so that John can be more popular and would find a perfect wife for him too! P.S. I am aware that his actor, Russell Tovey is gay, but just saying his acting is great in this series as he performed.
