One of the things I love so much about this version (the all-time best!) of "Pride And Prejudice" is how so much is communicated between Elizabeth and Darcy without words...they need only look at each other, they understand each other, their developing passion is so deeply and quietly spoken, without words....it's fascinating, and it's truly beautiful. Not a lot of blathering, no overt anything. It is an eventual meeting and knowing of souls, in such a subtle and quiet way. I absolutely love it. My hat is off to the exceptional talents of Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth!

I cannot agree more. So many movies just jump right to show and so much skin trying to make this "romantic scene" 🙄 when the music is done just right, the look is time right, and reason for the look is so poignant.... do you get one of the most romantic scenes of all time. Goes straight to the heart every time I watch it❤

In my opinion Matthew Mcfayden appears a bit bland and unimposing in that role. Doesn't fit to the description of Mr.Darcy. But how can we know how the production company and co. decided to whom they give the roles? In film history roles have often not been given to those actors that "fit" but to those who got better networks and agents. Same with the Oscar film prize. Audrey Hepburn got the price for trivial Roman Holiday instead of Grace Kelly who did real acting in High Noon... I like Audrey but giving her the prize for such simple acting at the beginning of her career wasn't right. It was unfair.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences agrees with you (and so do I), for Colin Firth received an Academy Award as Best Actor for the later film “The King’s Speech.” It was fun to see Jennifer Ehle as well in that film, though she didn’t play the King’s wife but the wife of his speech therapist. (The actor playing THAT role DID win an Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor.”) Excellence all around when Firth and Ehle are involved.

impossible. It was the most horrible of times. Fashion and entertainment only would accept starving young women unable to physically defend theirselves or to speak out, and depending on males to be fed or protected. Despicable era that lasted until 2010 decade. I was in highschool in the late nineties. Don't you remember Calvin Klein's walking skeletons and a handful of brands following the trend? Or how in 2005 (premiered, but preproduction started at least 2-3 years before) the actress chosen for Elizabeth Bennet was Keira Knightley? Jennifer knew she had nothing to do against that trend. Anyway it also had some good things. Independent filmmaking and out of mainstream fashion brands had their time and space to call all this nonsense out.

In this movie Pride and Prejudice I attempt to think what Darcy and Lizzie are thinking behind their smiles or confrontations. It's such a different time then the world we live in today. But I like to think their feelings are not that far off as our feelings are today. I wonder if Jane Austen really knew the feelings felt by her characters. What was Jane trying to get across to us today? Some things are impossible for us to know if not actually shared with us by the author.

All you Darcy know it alls who think Matthew “got it wrong” are completely ridiculous. It’s another CHOICE. Matthew’s a fantastic actor. He always has been. They saw Darcy as shy and reserved, as if he has an anxiety disorder, something Austen wouldn’t know to write about in that particular way. Pride and Prejudice is still fiction. @Musicienne-DAB1995 yes, Lizzie is clearly intrigued by Darcy, despite her denials. As Darcy is by Lizzie, despite his occasional denials. Bubbling beneath the surface is the sense, as someone said, that these two were somehow somewhen destined for each other. Such a masterly romance. And this adaptation does it full justice.

It's not at all uncommon for people who are shy/emotionally injured to be thought prideful or at least standoffish even these days. I've known people like this. The apparent rudeness is usually a panicked defense.

At the end of the day, Lizzy and Darcy are both haters and love to make fun of people in a sneaky, clever way. This is what initially creates both the dissension and the attraction between them, and it is also why they are cosmically perfect for one another. I too am a hater, and this is why I love P&P

Darcy admits his faults and works to improve himself. That’s important, and why he’s totally worth loving, despite his arrogance. I adore this miniseries unreservedly.

The only aspect I think this one could have done better was Charlotte. She wasn’t plain, looked rich, and looked the same age as the other girls, so it didn’t come across rhat the character is supposed to be plain, 27, and while not poor, wouldn’t have much to live on if she didn’t marry someone with a secure future.

I assume every one knows that Colin and Jennifer had a relationship that commenced during filming and lasted several years...? So , the love scenes were not just two actors pretending....🤔

I’ve seen this movies easily 100x and I just saw for the first time that she was beside a pillar and hidden that’s they were speaking so freely. I used to think he was just that arrogant 😂 The fact that she has the gumption to then get up and walk past him so he sees that she heard him, is the backbone laced with pettiness I hope to achieve one day. 😂

Darcy seems a cold, haughty man who would have been very difficult for me to take seriously. Bumping into him would annoy me endlessly. But I would have been more than happy to annoy him. I've actually treated my bff this way. He was clueless for months that he annoyed me.

He wasn't "bad." He simply had issues because of things that he'd experienced in life. He wasn't always so stuck up.
