One of the things I love so much about this version (the all-time best!) of "Pride And Prejudice" is how so much is communicated between Elizabeth and Darcy without words...they need only look at each other, they understand each other, their developing passion is so deeply and quietly spoken, without words....it's fascinating, and it's truly beautiful. Not a lot of blathering, no overt anything. It is an eventual meeting and knowing of souls, in such a subtle and quiet way. I absolutely love it. My hat is off to the exceptional talents of Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth!

In my opinion Matthew Mcfayden appears a bit bland and unimposing in that role. Doesn't fit to the description of Mr.Darcy. But how can we know how the production company and co. decided to whom they give the roles? In film history roles have often not been given to those actors that "fit" but to those who got better networks and agents. Same with the Oscar film prize. Audrey Hepburn got the price for trivial Roman Holiday instead of Grace Kelly who did real acting in High Noon... I like Audrey but giving her the prize for such simple acting at the beginning of her career wasn't right. It was unfair.

impossible. It was the most horrible of times. Fashion and entertainment only would accept starving young women unable to physically defend theirselves or to speak out, and depending on males to be fed or protected. Despicable era that lasted until 2010 decade. I was in highschool in the late nineties. Don't you remember Calvin Klein's walking skeletons and a handful of brands following the trend? Or how in 2005 (premiered, but preproduction started at least 2-3 years before) the actress chosen for Elizabeth Bennet was Keira Knightley? Jennifer knew she had nothing to do against that trend. Anyway it also had some good things. Independent filmmaking and out of mainstream fashion brands had their time and space to call all this nonsense out.
