Even Kevin was like "Your kid is about to get his butt handed to him, and he has it coming." It's one of the more underrated parts of the movie: Kevin isn't an EVIL guy, he's not even a BAD guy. His character flaw is that he has never lost so he thinks everything he does/thinks is the best, hence why he always refers to "His Way" as being inherently correct. Even when he talks to Becky and she is convinced to become a cheerleader, he's not pushing her to make that specific decision. He talks to her as her uncle and offers her some solid advice about how her worth isn't solely dependent on being a good football player.

My little brothers lived in the small town and next to the water tank where this was filmed. They got to watch a lot of this being filmed and met and played catch with most of the young cast during breaks. All these years later and it's still a fond memory to them.
