We're back!!!! Today we're doing seeds in soil blocks, Nick is working on a slab bench for the mudroom, and Sadie provides the entertainment all day long.
Enjoy!

We are new this year to using soil blockers, but Eliot Coleman's recipe for soil block mix worked well for us, so here it is!
Eliot Coleman's recipe was for a full bushel of mix. We have a half bushel sized tub so we adjusted it to what is shown below. This amount filled six and a half trays of blocks.
15 quarts screened peat
1/4 cup lime
(mix)
10 quarts perlite
1 and 1/2 cups fertilizer (ours was 3-3-3)
(mix)
5 quarts topsoil
10 quarts screened compost
mix and add water
let sit for several hours
adjust water until a very small amount of water drips out when you squeeze firmly
(if you're Sadie, make mud balls and take a bath!)
We did one tray of onions (about 200 seeds), 2 trays of tomatoes, 1 tray of ground cherries, 1 tray of peppers, 1/2 tray each of lettuce and parsley and 1/2 tray each of broccoli, eggplant, and Sadie's watermelon. But we intend to keep going until our rack is full!
