This is the only recording by Dickens that I ever bought. LOVE the guitar work! IT REALLY "MADE" THE SONG!!! ( I have another longer comment I entered months ago buried somewhere on this page.)

@@ruthboykin9873 Righteeo! To cohabit with a gal who disliked country music would be impossible, unless she owned 10,000 square miles of land from which crude oil was being pumped! That would make it not impossible just DIFFICULT!

@@ruthboykin9873 I guess you heard the one about the city slicker who wed the rich Texas oil gal who owned 10,000 square miles of oil producing land, and when queried if he loved her, he retorted: "I worship the ground she walks on!" (Google Mel Street on WHO'LL TURN OUT THE LIGHTS, uronthehill ch., & Little Jimmy Dickens on YOU'VE DESTROYED ME, Tom Page ch.) you

Hahaha yes I did hear that about the city slicker! Lol different forms of it too. I worshiped the ground he walked on! Well why did you divorce him...found out he didn't own any of it! Now, I'll try to follow your leads

Jim was a very wise soul in retrospect, his humor showed he could laugh about himself....the mark of a true sage!

Bobby Braddock mentioned this song in his autobiography. It's available on the Essential Little Jimmy Dickens. You can even get it on the Freegal database. Check your local library. Bobby Bare is the only artist mentioned who's still alive.

Written by Bobby Braddock who also wrote Tammy Wynette's classic "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." He had a clever way with words.

Just now dawned on me, he passed away one day removed from the day Hank Williams expired.

You make this sound like the deaths occurred in the same calendar year. Dickens had to have expired at least 50 years after Hank passed away. Peace.

All the comparison quips were ok except the last one, which doesn't work since "John," not "Johnny" is a slang word for commode. Don't know if it is even used as a colloquialism anymore, especially among the youth.

Little Jimmy Dickens is not my cup of tea, but I do like this song. (In the early 1960's Jimmy was playing at the enlisted men's club at the US NAVY Pacific Missile Range, Pt. Mugu, California, and one of the "high- lights" was when he was singing "Bird Dog" by the Everly Brothers and he switched the lyrics to "...he's a bird turd"...)
