Depends on what type of clover. Red good, white not so much. If you want to get rid of clover you don’t need chems. You can spread white sugar on it, and it’ll kill clover and fertilize the soil at the same time.

I keep the clover in my lawn in the upper midwest for the native pollinators. My lawn is three types of grasses and clover. Clover is about 10% of the total area. One year the clover almost all died back on it's own. It came back. My neighbors keep the dandelions going for the bugs in the spring. LOL

@@thisbushnell2012 I have eaten dandelion greens and fried up dandelion flowers. They are not an endangered species where I live. I used a herbicide on my gravel drive for a couple of years, but overspray and leaching caused two of my old white oaks serious damage. That sealed the deal on never using that crap again. Now I tamp and roll in the spring to fix frost heave and just mow the drive very low. As soon as things dry out in late spring, everything looks great.

Here in Northwest Florida the clover greens up much earlier than the grass. It seeds out and dies and fixes the nitrogen on its own about the time the grass is greening up and growing. Keeping the weeds mowed down before they seed will eventually kill them off, albeit more slowly. To each his own, but I much prefer that to the constant use of pesticides.

I just mow whatever grows naturally in my yard when it starts getting too high. I'm definitely not spraying chemicals. I have a lot of birds ,small animals, and bugs in my yard, not to mention my dogs. I don't need my yard to look like a golfcourse. I guess this video isn't really made for people like me. I think pesticides are way overused . if there's something I really hate in my yard that isn't beneficial to wildlife ill get it out with some nontoxic stuff. I realize that may not be practical or possible for every situation.

I'm with you. I think my yard includes clover, henbit, oxalis, wild strawberry, crabgrass, chickweed and some random grass (probably fescue planted by the people who owned the house before me). Mow it periodically and I'm happy with the critters that inhabit my yard. The great thing is my yard is green all the time and my neighbors runs between brown and green depending on the rain and watering. And it costs me nothing to maintain except gas.

A MAJOR benefit of of clover is its 'attractibility' to pollinators !!!!! As an avid amateur gardener who has noticed the recent significant decline of virtually ALL pollinators and which has forced such gardeners to tediously HAND POLLINATE to ensure crop yields, the planting/seeding of clover in one's lawn has been a salvation for increased pollinators - especaily european honey bees and wild native bees when the clover is 'in flower'.

Clover is not a weed. It is a very effective ground cover. You can plant it almost anytime and it takes 2-3 days to germinate and start growing. Bottom line, in my opinion lawns would be better off with more clover and less grass which requires a lot of chemical and manual maintenance.

@@Thelawncarenut I think you miss the point. It's not just the chemicals, it is the entire industry of keeping non-native grasses "pristine" which is hard to take. My issue is less with chemicals and the emphasis on the industry of lawn care and maintenance. I would prefer letting native grasses and ground cover thrive. Those grasses and ground cover are part of a well functioning ecosystem.

I like the look of clover in the lawn. However, each clover stem is like a little tube of water. When you mow, this moisture causes the grass and clover cutting parts to pack under your deck, even when mowing in dry weather. So your deck is full of organic cement every week. So, we ordered some of the micro clover seeds to put down in those two areas. We haven’t spread it yet bc we have a retaining wall to finish around a flower bed first which is on the agenda for this weekend.
