👍👍💯🇺🇸 My first and long term experience welding happened at my mentors shop. A Lincoln powered by a Ford model T four cylinder engine. Norman till this day is still using it. He’s 85.

I had an old ac dc Lincoln welder was in a wooden box with carrying handles on both ends I’ve never seen one like it. Last time I used it was1978 I heard it went to a truck museum in woodland California . it looked like it was a very early model it came from big bear lake in the san bernardino mountains i was told when I was a child that it worked on the dam project very early 1900s would you have any information or pictures of one?

started welding in 1970. it's been my experience that piss poor welders always blame the machine...

I guess different people have Different experiences in life. My experience was the exact opposite of yours. In my experience piss poor welders couldn’t tell the difference between a good welding machine and an exceptional one. Thank you for sharing your wisdom Bill!

Back in the nineties I work for a company called Krause plow in that shop you got paid for what you do tip sticking Millers I wouldn't give you fifty cents for every one of them back then Lincoln in Hobart Lindy's those were good machines if you were late and that blue devil was sitting in your bae you develop a stomach ache or headache or wife was in a car wreck mom just died something to get out of welding with that machine

Then I moved on to Mega Manufacturing at this time piranha ironworker with still a product of that company I started working in the boom shop building Pioneer crane booms and again they had one of them Miller's with these programmable features it spent more time in the repair shop then it did on the floor not that we locked welding with it anyway when you're running spray transfer at 42 V probably 550 to 600 in of wire you spend more time changing tips than you do welding

Those SA200s are hard to beat... even today they still are an industry standard. But i am a fan of the newer miller welders... particularly the 302s with an airpak... it just makes sense to have an air compressor built into the machine... and you can run a plasma cutter vs cutting torch. That can drastically reduce your consumables cost. Miller welders also offer clean ac power which means you can run sensitive electronics/ac/dc tig machines off them if the job calls for it... and the wirless ditch box is a godsend... when i was a helper, muddy cables were the bane of my existence... there arent enough rags in the world to keep your welders leads clean on a wet job (and if you arent wiping your welders leads down every time you roll up, youre a trash helper)... run cordless grinders (milwaukee) and you only have two cables to clean and keep up with

I stand with the cable between my legs. Then stand up straight, clinch my butt cheeks, then start reeling em in. Clean the cables
