Mitch always did great stuff, but Bill Medley wrote the song and it was the Righteous Brothers first hit in "63 and, in my opinion, that was the best version

Was about 12 or 13 when this hit. excellent band, needlessly destroyed by record company greed heads who wanted to separate the "talented" one ---- Mitch --- from the supposedly less talented band. Incredibly stupid move. The whole band was talented. The guys had made it a perfectly functioning machine. Going back to the days when they learned their dubious trade by cheating and robbing black musicians, the "recording industry" has been composed primarily of greedy vicious swine. Moe Asch, Ahmet Ertegun and John Hammond were amazingly rare exceptions. Jerry Wexler was another. Most of the rest could be dropped down a volcano without drawing anything but brief and appreciative headlines.

The business side of the music business has always been seedy and greedy. From Elvis to the Bee Gees and groups who weren't around as long such as these guys, millions were routinely stolen from those who made the money for them. Writers too were ripped off and cheated. In this case karma hit back as the label folded not too long after Mitch and the boys were gone.
