A classic indeed! I use to watch this as a kid in the late 70s. I was walking today and started to sing this song but couldn’t remember why I knew it. I googled the cartoon and immediately knew all the scenes. I miss my older family that passed on. Good memories.

I was born in Hong Kong in 1940 of English parents, and just before Hong Kong fell to the Japanese in late 1940 my mother and I were evacuated to New Zealand. Before the war ended, due to concerns about the whole Pacific region being overcome, we were again moved in shipping convoy back to the UK. As a four year old I remember this song being used as entertainment on the ship, and until today have never heard it played. I have often sung the words and always finished with the phrase "or would you rather be a fish?". I don't remember the mule and the pig being involved but the fish must have really caught my fascination.

The magic of youtube gave me this as first results. ah really takes me back to those weekdays watching this on summer breaks man we had it good back then

Lyrics: Would you like to swing on a star Carry moonbeams home in a jar And be better off than you are Or would you rather be a mule A mule is an animal with long funny ears Kicks up at anything he hears His back is brawny but his brain is weak He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak And by the way, if you hate to go to school You may grow up to be a mule Or would you like to swing on a star Carry moonbeams home in a jar And be better off than you are Or would you rather be a pig A pig is an animal with dirt on his face His shoes are a terrible disgrace He has no manners when he eats his food He's fat and lazy and extremely rude But if you don't care a feather or a fig You may grow up to be a pig Or would you like to swing on a star Carry moonbeams home in a jar And be better off than you are Or would you rather be a fish A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook He can't write his name or read a book To fool the people is his only thought And though he's slippery, he still gets caught But then if that sort of life is what you wish You may grow up to be a fish A new kind of jumped up slippery fish And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo Every day you meet quite a few So you see it's all up to you You can be better than you are You could be swingin' on a star

@padraigdublin95 Yes I think my brother and I did, it was our favourite video growing up, we watched it so many times the tape got dirty so we had to throw them away. They were Warner Brothers classic tapes which came in giant video boxes as there was two videos to each box. They were not unlike the Disney sing-a-longs videos, but had the 'best of' episodes of Warner Brothers. In them was a Christmas one called 'Big Paw' about bears meeting 'Big Paw' during Christmas.
