Little Men (1940) Comedy, Drama Full Length movie

Jo March and her husband Professor Bhaer operate the Plumfield School for poor boys. When Dan, a tough street kid, comes to the school, he wins Jo's heart despite his hard edge, and she defends him when he is falsely accused. Dan's foster father, Major Burdle, is a swindler in cahoots with another crook called Willie the Fox. When the Plumfield School becomes in danger of foreclosure, the two con men cook up a scheme to save the home.

This is a mess, and nothing like the original book. LMA is probably turning the Spanish Waltz in her grave (which, by the way, is in New England, not the South, where this seems to have been set).

I'm not sure it's meant to be set in the South. They mention the Androscoggin River which runs through New England.

@@kallen868 No, of course it's supposed to be set in NE, they lived in Concord so the text names places there. But the speech patterns and fawning/rude/clueless actions portrayed are those used to "send up" the South of the mid-19th c.; in particular mocking the woman in the group because of her face wouldn't have ever appeared in a Jo March/LMA book. It's as if the script writer or their editor had never been to NE, (besides being mysogynistic and hopeless).
