If there is anyone who worked on this movie that is still alive. This goes out to you. 🎉🎉

For a movie that was almost before even my parents’ time Darby O’Gill holds up phenomenally well. Besides the artistic wizardry I think part of what makes it work is that it’s such an unassuming movie. It’s not a fantasy epic or bombastic sci-fi movie, it’s just subtle and full of very natural effects. I feel like David Fincher would extremely approve of this approach.

I absolutely loved watching this movie as a little kid

I learned quite a bit about old-time special effects. Curiously as a boy I was interested in the idea of using mirrors and parts of it scratched out to create interesting effects. I see today they are clearly in place. Thanks for the information, RedMorganKidd !

So one scene caused a city wide blackout. Now that's production at its finest. Miss this movie, watched it as a kid. I know we have it somewhere on VHS, maybe I'll dust off the old VCR player and watch it. Just to make things better, I'll remove all smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other tech from my room while I enjoy the masterpiece. Unfortunately, we don't have a CRT TV, so a small 32" LCD TV will have to do.

Thanks for making this video and shining a light in these tremebous vfx. Absolutely fantastic vfx and a lovely 'little' film. I never get used to seeing these shots... amazing. knowingbhownitbwS done makes it even more incredible..such care and artistry. Superb. In terms of the Matte Paintings I am not that all of the paintings were.glass painting painted on lo location/on set. I know Disney used the latent image, or original negative matte technique as opposed to the glass shot technique as this is faster fir the film unit and allows more.time for the matte painter. Optical effects tupically refer to a post process - cel-animated vfx added to live action shots. This inherently involves rephotographing an existing (although specially prepared) film print, resulting in an inferior image to the rest of the film. Disney avoided this and made great strides in developing optical photography processes to minimise this. Optical Photography or Optical Compositing was an art in itself. But a great video, thanks again.

Guess Darby's teeth were a step too far for the effects of the time!?😂

Plenty of inaccuracies in the first few minutes. I wish posters would know what they're talking about.

has anyone seen Darby O'Gill and the Little people on Disney+? They changed all the voices. They are all dubbed in. Darby doesn't sound anything like he does in the original version.

Why in the world would they do That??

@@browncoats4ever I guess Disney+ didn't want Darby O'Gill sounding TO Irish!

A different generation didn't see it as something they'd be familiar with... I guess they tried to "fix" it by putting something they could associate with. Following the masses. Hate that. I know there's an original version (or one recorded on a VHS) somewhere in my parents house, along with VHS player. I'll make sure to watch it soon.
