Love how this song mentions the Glenn Miller Band. Wonder how many younger people know who he was? It was before my time too but he was an important part of American musical history. He was the bestselling recording artist of the early 40's. Bandleader & trombonist (love how the horn section came in when they mentioned him), in World War II his plane disappeared over the English Channel as he was on his way to entertain American troupes in France. Terrible tragedy but he left a great musical legacy. "In the Mood" is a good example. Most people would recognize it.💙

Big on Glenn Miller my mom sang with big bands back in the day And sang with Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday. Glenn was from my state colorado.A little town Ft.Morgan colorado kinda there clam to fame. I'm older than you obviously.Like my kids had to endure my music.I endured my mom's and ended up having a love and appreciation for it. 60s,70s and 80s are my favorite of course old 50s rock and blues. Like food, music is a uniter If we'd all have community potlucks sharing food and music Sharing our cultural differences we'd all find out how much similarity we have. That's how you get fusion like how Carlos Santana blended and ELO blended theirs with classical.

@@carmenjones5528 What a great comment! That's so interesting about your mom. Did she get to be on any recordings? I had a great-aunt who danced with Rudolph Valentino, but that's about it. You might not be older than me. We have the same favorite musical eras. I was a child when The Beatles burst onto the world stage. Then grew up through my teens listening to all the great bands of the British Invasion, blues, Motown artists. 60's & 70's were like a musical Renaissance. I was always going to concerts. Saw Hendrix live 2 months before he died, got some good photos. Saw Led Zeppelin 3 times. Elvis twice. So many greats. Most recently, Queen in Nashville last summer. Never got to see them when Freddie was alive but Brian May & Roger Taylor are still fantastic & it was truly wonderful. All ages enjoying their music together. Magical. Your idea about community potlucks, sharing food & music, is such a great idea. Wish it was a common occurrence all over the country & the world. We'd all be the better for it.💙

This is the right voice. This is the theme of what the song is about, the vibe you're supposed to get reminiscing about those nights with your loved one. It's not about vocal acrobatics and mindless amusement. The mood is supposed to be foggy like a memory, and this brassy and classy sound and vocals is what fits. It's a masterpiece. The other vocalist is tremendously talented, just totally missing the feel of this song. This guy, Glenn (?) is a huge part of why the original radio cut was so big and gave us images in our mind of a past love.

So glad you were able to view the studio/recorded version of this song. The concert version with the other lead was definitely more lively, but this original lead is def smoother, my preference, I couldn't agree more with you, man!

Yeah I remember watching The Midnight Special as a youngster. Maybe 8 or 10 years old. Back in the late seventies. I love those times. The music was very Soulful grooving and meaningful. And it's great enjoying this together with many other people and yourself. The world to use a lot more of this type of activity. And not just over the phone. Let's get real again everyone. Love is the answer :-)

Check out Dr. Hook, "Sylvia's Mother." It was written by poet Shel Silverstein (The Giving Tree) who actually hosted the band on his houseboat and played harmonica in the video.

One of the best soft rock songs ever made. People don't make songs with this type of melody and harmony anymore. Song came out the year I was born, but it was still hugely popular several years later, and recall hearing it on the radio when I was a little kid.
