It's amazing that she wanted to go back to Central after the trauma of that first day. She was the only student who walked to school alone and she had to endure that mob -- a fifteen year old girl in those times against tens, hundreds of people who meant her harm. Our ancestors were STRONG.

I’m so glad Grace Lorch rescued Eckford from that abusive mob in 1957! And there was even a brave New York Times reporter named Ben Fine who told her, “Don’t let them see you cry”.
