I remember watching "Dune" in the theatre. They gave out a one-page synopsis and glossary of terms for the film with each ticket so that movie-goers not familiar with the novels would have a fighting chance of understanding what was going on. I wish that I kept that as a souvenir. Does anyone else remember receiving that at the theatre?

@@TheDungeonDive Both of them are somewhat similar: The Unseen World is about paranormal investigation in a randomly generated world, while Sworn by Ghostlight is about a solving a murder case in a Victorian town (also, the latter is based on Ironsworn!).

My favorite Lynch interview moment. Lynch: "Eraserhead is my most spiritual film" Interviewer: "Oh really?! Elaborate on that" Lynch: " No. I wont." Him and Herzog should interview each other.

You had me at David Lynch and Twin Peaks, definitely buying this game, and appreciate the overview. I'm old enough to remember the build up to the debut of Twin Peaks on tv. They really promoted heavily and there was nothing like it, especially on prime time!

Yeah - it was so wild for prime time television at the time. Especially those episodes that Lynch directed.

I miss Wrapped In Plastic. I'm amazed someone remembers it. Maybe I missed your showing it, but I didn't see The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. If you like the books that add detail to TP, that's a must-have, imo. The series finale was the first episode I saw. I assumed it was just another soap opera... nope. Instantly captivated. I couldn't turn away. What the hell is this and why haven't I been watching it?The next day I was asking all my videophile friends for VHS recordings of the series. Later, the complete box set was released, but it excluded the pilot. And even then, there were two versions of the pilot. It was a couple of years before I acquired all of it and got to see the whole series. Anyway, great idea for a game setting that's about investigation.

I showed the Secret Diary! :) It's good. When TP was on, I was in high school, and didn't really watch a lot of television. Luckily I had a friend who taped them all off of TV, so I was able to watch them. A local video store had the European version of the pilot, so that's how I saw the pilot, until I bought a bootleg DVD of it later.

Love this video! Thanks so much for highlighting this - it was an instant purchase. Likewise, I'm a *huge* Lynch fan. I'm a professional artist/writer, and his work has had such a profound influence on me, and has literally changed the course of my life. My rankings, from favourite to least favourite: 1: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me 2. INLAND EMPIRE 3. Twin Peaks S1 4. Twin Peaks S3 5. The Straight Story 6. Rabbits 7. Twin Peaks S2 8. Mulholland Drive 9. Elephant Man 10. Lost Highway 11. Wild At Heart 12. Eraserhead 13. Blue Velvet 14. Dune

Great list! Love to see Fire Walk With Me at number one. It was my number one until The Return. I love how The Return is basically a sequel to FWWM. I almost included Rabbits, but I'm not sure I consider it a major work. At least not until it gets officially released on BR or something. It's very good, though.

Interesting video, and cool collection. I loved the old show, but didn't like anything that came after it, so I guess I'm in the Frost camp. You should check out the game Deadly Premonition and its sequel - they're as Twin Peaks-y as videogames get. The games are fascinatingly bad, so I don't recommend actually playing them, but maybe watch some retrospective videos. Trust me, you need to see this brilliant Lynchian-Japanese mess. A general question, as I'm still wrapping my head about the whole "solo RPG" idea. Is there actually a need for designated "yes-no" oracles? Here, it is tied to the character's stats, so I get it. But, generally speaking, it seems like you could just flip a coin, or roll a die (with +1/-1, if needed), and get your answer, without needing to look at a whole separate table. The whole idea just seems needlessly complex to me, maybe you could clarify?.. P.S.: you've probably seen the One Page Solo Engine, but, if you haven't, - check it out. A simple universal oracle that fits on a double-pager, for when Mythic seems excessive.
@TheDungeonDive
@TheDungeonDive 9 ай бұрын
Deadly Premonition is pretty cool! As far as oracles go, the general rule is to just use what's useful and fun for you. One Page is pretty cool. I don't like mythic at all - way too complex for I generally need.

I always like the use of PBTA in more specific themed game - an investigation in this case or in dungeon crawl like A Torch in the Dark. A problem I had with Ironsworn/Starforge is that they trying to accommodate everything and therefore the actions also have to be generic and lack theme. When PBTA are used in a more specific situation like in this case, it’s so much easier for players to imagine the scene (like evoking the memory of Twin Peaks).
