jesus christ a few months ago tried this song, and i coudn´t even pass the half part of the intro, then i realized how weak my fingers were, i started exercising techniques, leaks instead of learning songs,pushing my limits everyday, then yesterday this lesson came into my mind, i was afraid at first, but when i started playig it i was amazed how i could nailed it just in a hour. now i dont even wanna see the next video hahah, i dont want to ruin my happiness right now. thank you so much for you lessons :)

Wow! just the creative vision to compose this work, aside from the technical mastery to execute it, really illustrates Hendrix's brilliance. It is no wonder he has influenced every generation of rock guitarists since. Thankyou Carl! you have made my life as a guitar hack a better place.
@VodkaSelekta3 жыл бұрын
This just happened to me funnily enough. I tried about four times and failed in the first few bars, but now I pretty much learned the whole intro in an hour. I purposely tried to learn some easier but still, Hendrix influenced tracks, like John Mayers Gravity along with some SRV licks to build up my speed and right-hand technique to give me the techniques i needed to learn this.
@user-jv9br4ym8h9 жыл бұрын
This lesson is really good, I mean, there are a lot of ways to play this intro, but this is probably the most iconic one. The explanations are really well-made, the only thing missing is some recap from point to point. It would be really useful to hear how it sounds as you add the parts to it, just to give some backup for those (like me) who had to stop and check out how it all sounds every new step. Anyway, great job.

For those reading this now, try learning a bit, then listen to Hendrix play it on the track (Keep in mind he's tuned down), then try playing it like hendrix. Rinse and Repeat

I try to watch as many different lessons on whatever song I want to learn and no two are alike.Then I pick the one that is most helpful and go back to it but, I still find parts in most all of them and switch it out and then go back to the favorite and play along with it.I almost always pick songs/solos way above my abilities and learn the notes if it is too fast and play the notes slowly and as much speed up and then I can see the progress after memorizing the solo.It helps me when I start another one and all the pieces fall together.You probably have learned it and more by the time you read this.Happy Playing!!

If you have a Mac, after learning the basics here, to learn from a Hendrix recording if he's a half step off, you can also download the video with VDH, drag it into Garage Band, and change the pitch by half a step. Further, you can then change the speed without changing the pitch further. Of course, it introduces noise, but for learning the song it saves re-tuning your guitar every time! Here is a tutorial on the Garage Band part: liveukulele.com/gear/software/transposing-with-garageband/

I agree with Russ. It's traditional to simply learn the intro since it repeats and is such a resolving progression of chords; learn the embellishments (solo elements) and then to give it your own flair, just keep the dive bomb and the wailing (16th fret high e string) G solo note intros.

Just a general comment here. I've been playing for 30+ years, and I've noticed that just about any yahoo with a smart phone can (and does) post "how to play song x" videos on this site, whether they're qualified or not. I always look for your lessons first because you decode each song and the concepts and context behind the riffs in a way that, to me, usually gets at what makes that song cool or interesting to play around with and absorb, rather than just regurgitate what's on the record (which can also be fun...). At any rate, just wanted to say thanks for helping me expand my fretboard horizons in such a painless way.

David Frame I think it may also have to do with how far you are willing to stretch your mind and creativity. Don't hold back on doing something because its hard or because its not theoreticaly correct you know. and another thing is that guitarists now are so consumed with knowing how to play songs rather then create them, you really can't call someone a guitarist if they can't pick up a guitar and play you something never rehearsed but still sounds like music but don't get me wrong im not saying messing up during this means your not a guitarist because like I said "...something UNREHEARSED..." but yeah nowadays people aren't that good at just playing the guitar in general, its always "can you play little wing? stairway to heaven? smoke on the water?" at the end of the day I think I great guitarist is one that creates as well as he/she covers other great guitar songs.

Thanks for this video - it was really useful I watch lot of these type of videos and I'm often struck by the length of the fingers that many of the guitarists have (long!!) - which is disheartening for me as my fingers are pretty short. BUT then I remember Johnny Hiland doesn't have the biggest hands and he's not too bad.. so I guess there's a little hope
@fakt78148 жыл бұрын
It's is not that hard song, I believe. Phrases are pretty slow and "friendly". But still without good technique it sounds terrible. Your left hand will be always muting strings a lot of times, so it will sound very flat and thin compare to the original. Also strum is difficult in some ways. Solo sounds usuall for hard rock stuff, so it wouldn't be difficult if you tried to play some solos before. I think this piece of music is even academical in some ways; just like in any academic piece, dynamics makes all the difference.
