First, thank you so much for sharing your talent. Second, a quick tale from eons ago as in 1969. I'm 15 1/2 years young and living in Los Angeles when news starts floating round that Mr. Jimi will be playing The Devonshire Fair Grounds. Tickets were $3.50. Sold American! My friend and I are sitting about fifteen feet from Hendrix and my eyes are burning his hands hoping to learn something. ( I learned that I knew nothing yet) My teacher at Lou Adler's Music, and good 'ol Mel Bay books, kept preaching to me about my big thumb creeping up and over the neck but here was The Man himself using his thumb on the low E all over the fret board. When we got home and grabbed our Fenders I found myself trying to plant that E and a whole world opened up while another collapsed. I stopped my lessons and just played every chance I got.

Began playing guitar at 8 years old, took some guitar lessons, cut by teeth on sixties folk rock, heard Hendrix and got bit playing through out junior high and high school in a rock band, even in night clubs. Took martial arts in my mid twenties under third ranked world Zen Karate Doe instructor, converted to Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism at 29. Perused many You Tube videos of guitar instructors. Tim Pierce is at that caliber of professionalism of the aforementioned martial arts instructor. Uncanny nuance. Your focus is your reality. Thanks Mr. Pierce!

I applaud anyone like Tim that dedicates their life to music and finding perfection everyday. Jimi was great because he practiced more than anyone else. He had his guitar where ever he went. Jimi was blessed with incredibly long fingers and large hands, but a man with smaller hands have an advantage too. It all comes down to what your goals are and how hard you want to work at it. Nothing comes easy.

My guess is that it's people who came for a note for note instruction of the original track off of Axis: Bold As Love, who got turned off as soon as they heard the soloing, and if they waited that out, found out it's just an instruction on the intro. If it's not what you expected and want, you might hit the thumbs down. I didn't, but I'll certainly need to go elsewhere to find the rest of it.

But all hendrix recordings are out of tune. They deliberately sell you a recording that plays out of tune. They play slow and the notes get stretched and play out of tune. You're SO stupid, when you hear the drummer's cowbell sound you can't tell that's not a real cowbell sound. Its out of tune and stretched. The Only way to get all the OUT OF tune instruments back into tune is to speed up the recording. You keep believing the detune lies. You are a fuk head, mike. 50 years and YOU still can't hear. Give yourself a smack for each year you've wasted.

I have watched a few videos of yours and I am disappointed that I have never heard of you. Not only are you an incredible teacher but you are a master guitarist all around. Very impressed. I wish I lived closer so I could take a lesson from you. I have always favored shrapnel type guitarists and lately I have been trying to branch over to guys like John Mayer and more of a bluesy side. So naturally I tried to play some of his stuff. When I discovered how bad I sucked at that style it was a real wake up call as to what exactly I overlooked in my playing. I have been working on Lenny because I want to learn solo guitar with accompaniment. I think it's a good place to start because of the open E and A chords being your fall back accompaniment. I think I will learn this one too. Trying to find good songs that sound great by myself. Without having to rely on backing tracks to play something enjoyable. Thanks for the lesson.

Great lesson. I've been playing this song for years and you really captured not only the sound, but the feel quite nicely. One small suggestion - on the open C chord at the end of the intro, fret both the E and A notes (4/2 and 3/2) with your middle finger. This will make it much easier to play the C6 chord smoothly and keeps you from having to rush the timing for the following hammer/pull on the second string. I've been playing it this way for a while now and find it easier, once you get used to fretting two notes with the middle finger.
@WillieWunderbar10 жыл бұрын
Great lesson! 4 small remarks (i'm talking as if the guitar is tuned in E): 1. The B flat in between chord has a major third, not minor 2. 15:24. Jimmy playes other melody notes and has a fatter sound because he playes the root on de 6th string. This is also possible with small hands: thumb over 7th fret, 2nd finger on the D string 9th fret (octave note) and index on g- en b strings 7th fret. melody notes played with third finger and pinky. 3. In the part going from G to F (20:45) Jimmy keeps the open G string ringing (drone) 4. The very last chord (C shaped D chord), second measure-first beat Jimmy also played the high E string second fret. thanks to that this frase is a beautifully harmonized melody line. (this rif can also be play on 7th fret using th A shaped D Chord) (I used Jimmy's studio version, I know Jimmy never played a song the same twice).

Hi Tim, found you late, late after a long crazy night. Little Wing was on my mind and I was playing an Am and realized I knew the chords, but never learned all the fancy-schmancy licks. went t' youtube and looking over the vast results at a glance, I mentally eliminated the children and dummies and clicked on your lesson because I decided by looking at your picture there that you were a sensible mature skilled guitarist from whom I could probably learn what I was looking to git. ---- well, my instincts were good and the sun has come up as I spent about an hour stopping starting backing up and playing again and again I got a good basic first step toward learning to play Little Wing proper after all these years. You are a great teacher. What I really like about your teaching style is that you don't waste time stating the painfully obvious, like some people will name out loud every single note, fret, finger in a solo. I meant every one of hundreds of notes some guys will tell you "then put your __ finger on the __the fret, then hammer the ___th fret and then put your ___the finger on the ____th string then bla la la la......" when they start doing that I just turn it off. but you're nice and articulate and patient and you say what needs to be said and just show the obvious. long winded I am here, but I got so much out of your lesson, I really wanted to thank you and say more than a quick three or four words. Thank You kind sir, I am subscribed on youtube to you now, and also signed up for your newsletter email Little Wing lesson thing there. And now I will step out for breakfast and maybe come back and try this song again. Namaste. Barry Clark, Canada.

What's really cool Tim is the way you groove with music. It becomes apart of you like connecting with the soul

I've been watching guitar lessons and tutorials for quite a few years now, and I really cant believe how could I miss your channel for such a long time. Found it looking for Little Wing... thanks Hendrix! And thanks Tim, very nice lessons!!! Kudos from Brazil!

I'm sorry, Tim. I'm kinda stuck it the beginning. What'd happened with sound? It's like a lighting strike keep burning and burning. The holy stompbox? Thank you, can't get rid of goosebumps.

Thank you Tim for a really honest and transparent tutorial. I have tried and failed a few times to nail some of the chord shapes necessary to play this, but I've been watching other guitarists who usually have long enough fingers to fret everything without thinking, so they don't point out how some of the chords and double stops can be made a lot easier.

not Jimi Hendrix, the Jimi hendrix Experience. Hendrix was insistent that the correct name of the band be used.

yet he dropped them to go play with better musicians. this song was written by Jimi and played by the experience.

Bryan Mannoia better musicians?
@rickprol-pc8ds5 жыл бұрын
@@bryanmannoia8410 "Dropped them to play with Better Musicians"?? This is so dopey a thing to say in So many ways. How old are you?? Yeah, I would think only some young know nothing would say such BS! Mitch Mitchel ?? You know who that is right? Mitch was still going to tour right to the end with Hendrix. Only Redding and Jimi had a falling out but not with Mitchel. He wanted to get away from the trio line up and have more musicians in the band. Maybe you should know what yer talking about before opening your mouth.
@bryanmannoia84105 жыл бұрын
@@rickprol-pc8ds sorry rick, but you disagreeing doesn't make my comment "dopey" as you suggest. it is my opinion. firstly, I am 52. secondly, I own every Hendrix record. thirdly, I play guitar in two different trios. so, again, my opinion is no better or worse than yours. yeah, I know who Mitch is and though he is good he is no buddy miles. Hendrix agreed, because that is who he was playing with when he died, not mitch. I am aware that mitch played in more than just the experience with Jimi, but he was gone at the end and for the better. speaking of dopey, you might want to learn how to express yourself as an adult. if you hadn't added the "how old are you" part I would have thought you to be twenty.

Just a bunch of the best flowers from different garden behind !!! I’m talking about the amp heads !! What a collection Mr Pierce !! All my favourite in one room ! You’re one the best guitarist I’ve ever heard by the way .. long long way before putting images and sounds on you (KZbin) I’ve been always fan of your contributions in different projects ! Since I read your name on a Collins’s CD 30 years ago !

Tim, of all the guitar gods in the world, you are the one I'd most love to play like. Your style is fast and impressive, while still retaining wonderful melody and flare. Whilst I love Hendrix, SRV, and other fantastic blues masters I would just so love to be able to play with your precise and tuneful style, more than so many things. You are a great inspiration!
