We trimmed my piggies nails a few days ago, and used your tips- surprisingly, (hes normally a squirmer, hes a baby) he did great! He just nibbled a carrot and occasionally wheeked, but he didnt move. That shocked my entire family.

I am glad that the entire process of nail cutting is shown. I always felt badly that I needed another human to assist. Showing the different temperaments of the pigs when faced with this "ordeal" is also helpful. Believe it or not, I have never rewarded my pigs with a treat after nail cutting. Hoping that amendment to my routine will make this job go easier for all of us!

Hahah omg 5:18 the guinea pig in the hay rack! I made once a hay rack for my guinea pigs and I had this issue aswell. They still got in or jumped in so that they could lay in it. But my purpose was that they don't get into it so that the hay will be still fresh. Smart guinea pigs x)

I've been trying saskia (from LA Guinea pig rescue) way of cutting nails but if my sister is around, yup it helps to have another person to help me clip the piggies nails lol 🤗

I used to struggle so much with nail clipping. The guinea pig would just shake her feet so much. But then, I learned an exercise from someone named Saskia. Basically, you pick up the piggy and you only place it back down on the floor once the piggy is calm. This helps the piggy learn to be a bit more calm when you are holding them. I did this before nail clipping and it made life so much easier!!

Totally agreed on being two when clipping xD My boyfriend holds and I clip because he does not like to do it. We have a biter as well, who gives kisses when she is happy and gets treats, but when we do something she does not like, nail clipping, she bites out xD

I hate cutting my piggies' nails and you just reminded me I have to do it. My one piggy bites and spazzes out and I get so nervous so it takes me a long time to cut their nails with my husband holding them. Treats afterwards are a must, even for me. Lol!!

One of my guinea pigs died unexpectedly last night, his name is Arty, we had been bringing him to the vet and giving him medication but it seems it didn’t work. My other guinea pig is alone and I have a hole in my heart where Arty was. My consolation is that he had a nice big 5 feet by 2.5 ft cage and good veggies and food all his short life. He wasn’t even a year old yet.

you have an styptic powder on hand? I have birds, the quick basically goes to the end of the nail, really helps with those pesky bleeders. I don't normally trim my birds nails, I just bring them to the vet, especially my African Grey. But we keep it in the house for emergencies, especially blood feathers.

The last time I clipped my piggy's nails, one of them squirmed at *JUST* the wrong time and I cut into the quick. The poor little guy bled a lot. He's fine, but I felt bad. I felt *SO TERRIBLE* about doing this, but it was frustrating too. If you just *HOLD STILL* , I'd get this done in less than 2 minutes. But you're endangering yourself by squirming, you little fur potato!!!

I know I’m not Julia, but I thought I would help out! I’ve found the best things for teeth control would be: 1. An unlimited supply of fresh timothy hay. 2. The little compressed timothy hay toys you can buy at the shops. And 3. There are some little wooden chews that I found at a local shop that my two boys love.
