I completely agree. I will admit I had a cage this size for a couple weeks or so when I first got my Guinea pig because she was super little. That was the cage we got when we first got our two guinea pigs. We never used the ramp. The upper platform was only used for a place for them to hide under other than the house we put in. They were much smaller when we got them and we've upgraded their cage twice since. We used it again when we first got our new guinea pig until we got her checked out by the vet, and as a temporary place for them when we cleaned the larger cage so it was OK for that.

When I first had a guinea pig back in the late 1990s I had no idea what they really required for space and we kept him in a simple, modified rubbermaid box used for storing craft supplies, roughly 75 cm by 60 cm. Later I received a cage about double the floor area of the first one, but again, we didn't know that that cage was not even a third of the recommended size for two guinea pigs. That being said, my guinea pig and my brother's (his lived in that craft box-based cage for six years) lived pretty long lives. Mine lived 7 years. That being said, I know they would have been much happier in a larger accommodation now. If I was to purchase a cage now, I would either make a C&C or get a prefab C&C from Kavee. Even those in general are less expensive than the cage kits you buy at pet supply houses. Videos on KZbin like yours, Scotty's Animals and LA Guinea Pig Rescue have been a much needed wealth of information to my fairly uninformed self.

I have a cage like this from when I adopted two piggies off craigslist. They kept them in it 24/7 and both were super fat and had bad nails. I now just use it like a piggie "dog house" for them on the porch so they have a place to go into to feel safe and some shade. Covered the wire door with some cardboard so they dont slip their feet through the parts but they more just hop inside anyway. It works for that but thats really all its food for is just an on the porch house to rest in, not an actual cage.

Used this type of cage for my first guinea pig. That was for one night in May 2021. The next day, I got a second guinea pig. They were only in there for about a week until I got a Midwest cage. I currently have three in my Midwest. They certainly don't mind. I will, however, be expanding their cage in the coming weeks when I finally move into my new apartment. I'll have a lot more space and I'll be able to attach the Midwest with some C&C grids along with some modifications on the Midwest setup. They'll finally have more space and hopefully will be less agitated at each other.

Once upon a time (20 years ago) we had a cage from a pet store, where our tiny baby pigs lived. When they grew, we soon bought the biggest one we could find, but even that wasn't good enough. So at some point we connected multiple cages with pieces of rain pipe, so the pigs choose in which cage they wanted to be. At night, because in the day time whenever one of us was home, they would roam around the entire livingroom. Funnily enough they would climb back in their cage(s) for the night. I hardly ever needed to go around and round them up. These days, our pigs live in a pen we built ourselves. Nothing in stores is actually really big enough for a (herd) of pigs. It pains me to know some pigs do live in these cages.

Former guinea pig owner here. The cage we had for 2 piggies had the short side as long as the long side here and the boys had sufficient space for zoomies and a large house with 2 ramps and it still felt almost too small. This cage is absolutely insufficient for any fur potato larger than a dwarf hamster although the equipment is standard guinea pig stuff. As a rule of thumb for an all in one cage if the short side is almost too large for a standard door and the wide side is at least double that then you got the right cage for 2-3 piggies but buy a second or third house wich is never included.

Hello from India, I really enjoy your videos. I made a coroplast cage for my 2 guinea pigs with an extra floor. the guinea pigs chew the coroplast and have slowly been eating it all through the years. I provide lots of hay and pellets but they occasionally nibble on the coroplast! . Any advise to deter them would be very helpful. Thank you 🙏🏻

Coroplast is not good for them, they will chew anything in their cage to relieve boredom and for dental hygeine, so naturally they will ingest a lot of what they chew -- find a wood material that is UNtreated or stainless steel wire mesh that is painted, and ensure there are no sharp corners/points on them. Also, be mindful of what this video above says about the door, the guinea pigs tiny feet can get caught between the wires if there are not spaced appropriately, leading to bumblefoot or serious injuries.

im pretty sure that thing is smaller than my med/travel crate which is a 2x1. It is so so sad to see the size compared to Nugget and whats worse if i had been able to afford the expensive pet store cages my first piggie would have been a solo pig in something this size all bought from a big chain pet store. Im so glad the store cages are so over priced it made me go home and look on line find info and start with a midwest and 2 rescue pigs. 4 yrs later i have 13 in 4 cages all over sized except our one girl who refused to get along with any of the other 10 girls she lives alone in the midwest now we keep trying to find her a friend she just doent like anyone.

I have actually seen a video where piggies are sliding down a slide! So they actually do that!

I wish petstores would sell basic c and c cages in the brick and mortar stores.
