On April 15, 2019 Dave Treadway was killed in a crevasse fall accident in the mountains of Pemberton. Dave was a passionate individual who's achievements in the mountains were only outweighed by his desire to show others the love of God. He did this by serving as a youth leader in his community and by leading as a professional skiing role model. R.I.P.

So sad to hear of this tragic accident. Heart and prayers to family in coping with this loss.
I just now stumbled upon this awesome tutorial by Dave about installing a fireplace in his RV -- something on my wish list. I cannot tell you how saddened I am to learn that this young man is gone. I lost my husband in October of 2019, so I know the pain his wife and family now suffer. My heart goes out to them. Such a tragedy.

Wow such a twist and makes me totally think about starting to make videos that could possibly help just like mr. Treadway did here.

I didn't realise that the guy in the video Dave had died, www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/04/18/pro-skier-dave-treadway-dies-after-foot-plunge-into-crevasse/ or that he was a famous skier that did such extreme sports. damn!

You did yours the same as i did, Something to check, The cap you used is single wall not like the stove pipe. it gets hot in that cavity between the single wall and the ceiling like 200+ degrees, I spoke with Dickinsons and they recommended to use ceramic insulation in that cavity above the beauty ring...Yours might not get as hot as mine my upper pipe to the ceiling is much shorter.

Great video. I have a wood burning stove and it worked fantastic but the police and fire department came and told me that it was a fire hazard so now I can't have heat at all in below 30 degree weather! Please comment for suggestions.

Cubic pipe does’ the line up with dickenson deck mount ! How did you make the connection?
@Gratefulwon6 жыл бұрын
How is the pipe holding up after a heat season? I thought you wanted to have the crimped end of the pipes pointed down, so the next lower pipe fitted around the outside of the next higher pipe. This would allow the creosote to drop down and not leak from section seams?
@gregfawcett51523 жыл бұрын
So sorry to hear Dave passed...Dave mentioned in the video that the metal ring inside with all the holes allows air to escape...where and how does it escape..it looks like the metal flair fitting outside has no where for the air to escape to?
@waterworld11683 жыл бұрын
The ring allows air to move in and out of the celling cavity so it does not get to hot in there.

Man I've been searching for this info for a while! This video answered all of my questions. The product links also make it so much easier. I wonder if there is a rain-proof flue cap that could remain connected while driving...
@littleair9116 жыл бұрын
Awesome to hear. That's why I made it. There is a rain proof flue cap from Dickenson, and we use it
@mikenomadic55086 жыл бұрын
Did you get the 3 or 4 in Dickinson “H” cap? Would it have fit directly onto the Cubic flue pipe? Mine is installed on a small studio roof 3’ above the roof so the deck fitting would not work.

Does anyone know whether it exists a video or article about CUBIC Cub / Grizzly stoves or very little stoves transformed to be fed with wood pellets and worm screw (endless screw / auger)?

I don't understand how you flipped the pip upside down and got an accurate measurement of the flue pipe length you needed. Didn't you have to cut the bottom pipe too?

New sub here. Did you consider using a double walled flue pipe? What were your reasons for going with the single wall? Is there any difference in combustion efficiency and/or the build up of creosote between single and double walled flue pipes? Good job on the install.
@mikenomadic55086 жыл бұрын
David Golembeski the flue pipe from Cubic Mini is double wall. It looks just like Cubic’s flue and at 6:02 it looks like I can just make out the inner wall.

Thanks for the video. I'm going to order one next week and this video is perfect for letting me know how to install it. Did you say you drilled a 5 inch hole in the ceiling for the chimney?
@littleair9116 жыл бұрын
Yes, 5". It's a 3" chimney, and you want an inch of clearance all around.

Dave I have a real important question. Have u ever taken the temperature in the air gap where the pipe exits? I've installed my grizzly and the temp using a meat thermometer in the gap touching the pipe gets to 160 F. I have a metal heat shield another inch back in the gap to hold back insulation and wire. Using an ir laser it at one point got to 190 F. Is that too hot for rv material? I really don't want to burn down the trailer. Please respond it would be greatly appreciated. Any comments from others also appreciated. Thx
@RecreationalRentals5 жыл бұрын
Dave passed away tragically. That seams way to hot I'd suggest using double wall pipe only! Ate you using single wall pipe?
@louispeters21055 жыл бұрын
Go to the auto parts store and ask for "heat tape for headers" and wrap all of everything with that....
@louispeters21055 жыл бұрын
1" is way too small your insulation gap should be much more
@gregfawcett51523 жыл бұрын
Yes...this is one of my concerns...I am planning on cutting a 6" hole to allow for a 1.5 inch clearance (extra clearance) and wrapping automotive heat resistant tape @ all the plastic on the roof top and cutting holes on the stainless steel flair on the outside to allow for heat escape. The stainless steel flair on the outside that goes @ the chimney pipe does not have anywhere for the hot build up of heat to go so my hope is that by cutting a couple of holes in it it will allow the heat to escape from @ the space and draw a flow of air from the beauty ring on the inside to vent/escape to the outside. I will cover the holes on the stainless steel flair on the outside with a 1/2 dome stainless steel fittings covering the holes to prevent rain/water intrusion back into the inside but still allow for excess heat build-up to escape. I am using a Dickinson Diesel heater on my boat so no hot cinders landing on the top of the deck. Doing the install now and when finished will do some videos on the install @ August 2021.. Good question and let me know what you think....Best Capt. Greg...Seattle...Shilshole

Was told not to use rv silicone or sicaflex and instead go to a stove place and ask for special silicone that won't offgas and potentially cause fire.

I'm in the process of ordering my flue cap from dickinson.. torn between the original rounded cap or one of these h ones. Is there a reason you chose the h over the standard round. Does it have any benefits besides looking so cool ?
@mikenomadic55086 жыл бұрын
Lance travels I saw another Cubic Mini video where they used the Dickinson round cap with the small slots and he felt that caused too much restriction, especially with the creosote. I’m having an issue with mine and backdraft with high winds. I used a common big box store pellet stove cap. I’m now looking at this “H” cap which is supposed to be its big benefit.
@littleair9116 жыл бұрын
The H cap kicks butt in the wind. NO Draft
