How to Make PAINT YOUR OWN (PYO) COOKIES

Hello Everyone, I hope you get to make these cookies on day. They are such a hit and so much fun and everyone loves them. If you have an airbrush, you can simply airbrush the paint dots instead of painting them on.

Using airbrush colors is brillant! I wanted to try PYO cookies but didn’t want to use my gel colors. I love that I can use my airbrush colors and not feel like I'm using a ton of color but still get vibrant colors on a cookie.

Thank you! If you pipe colored dots they don't really transfer the colour onto the paint brush. This way it's almost like real paint and works much better 😊

You're welcome! I know some people use skittles too, but the color isn't as strong as doing it this way, it's really faint but is another option too!

Thank you!! I bought those from Walmart! Some cookiers also sell packs if smaller brushes as well so you can fit them in the bags too, but I can't think of any off the top of my head (Borderlands Bakery may be one of them!)

Love this idea. How long to dry the paint transfers in a dehydrator between paint coats?

I would say around 20-30 minutes should be enough to paint another layer on! 😊

when painting the cookie how does the water not eat away at the icing?

If you use a lot of water it does but if you spread it out it's not that noticeable. Usually the kids put too much water on, but they still eat it!

Could you use icing sugar instead of corn starch

Icing sugar will not work well, as it will dissolve and become sticky with the water, so cornstarch is best.

How can I avoid that grainy look when I am painting with gel colors and alcohol? I read that 90% alcohol can help (cant remember the name), but where I am from I can only find up to 50. Also does using spray paint with water as in the video transfer proof? I need it to dry completely. Thanks

You can dilute the airbrush colors with alcohol! I know people do paint with water as well, just takes a bit longer to dry. As long as you dilute the color it will dry reasonably quick. If you use water just be careful you fo wet the cookie too much as the water eats at the icing. My gel colors never fully dissolve in the alcohol and so it's always grainy so the airbrush colors are much better

Liquid food gels aren't strong or concentrated enough to get the colours so they don't work too well. You can use skittles for the paint colours though, they are more faint but work well!
