I absolutely love seeing my home town through the eyes of a new visitor. It's all too easy to shut Glasgow down with the misconceptions of times past and I'm glad these are now actually a thing of the past. Yes, behind the scenes there are the rough area's etc but every city has this. Glasgow is a great city, full of vibrant people, amazing architecture, great food and lots to do. You can jam pack your itinerary or relax and meander and you'll love it regardless. Great video!! Really enjoyed it. Cheers

Hi Phoebe, by sheer chance I'm the 1000th person to like this vlog. I was born in Glasgow in 1952 then moved to London in 1954. Thirty years later, in 1984, I brought my wife and two kids home. Not to Glasgow but to Dunblane. Forty years on, I'm a widower of 32 years but have a daughter and two granddaughters in London, and a son and latest granddaughter (2 months) in Auckland New Zealand. People often associate Glasgow with negative energy because of its not too distant past. My experience of the city and its people is the same as yours. As soon as step off the platform at Queen Street and into George Square I get a buzz. It's a physical thing and very hard to describe. The Uni, Ashton Lane, Botanic Gardens, Merchant City, and Cathedral all seem to either calm or energise. Sometimes both. I shed a tear watching your Edinburgh episode as you explained about your late gramps. I'm sure part of the energy you felt is part of him. Hope Inverness is good for you and thank you for a wonderful channel. I'm subscribing now. X

Coming from outside of Scotland, people don’t realize how hectic the rest of the world is. Not that Scottish people don’t know how to knuckle down- but that’s not all they know how to do. Glasgow is a vibe. Scotland is a vibe.

@@sandersson2813 Can both our subjective realities exist in the same spaces? And based on my life of well over half a century and having experiences living in vastly different parts of the world and very different cultures in rural, urban, suburban settings- when I say it’s a vibe I don’t think you know what I uniquely know. When I say it’s a vibe Glasgow resonates with ME. I like the overall city and the different people. I like it better than say, San Francisco or San Jose. Maybe you’re so close to it that you don’t know what you have (if you are Glaswegian- which you don’t seem to be). Okay. You win. It’s not a vibe. Sandwiches are not a vibe.

@@markfojas689 Of course, bit it's probably best not to describe Scotland as something it isn't. It isn't a vibe, at least no more than any other country is a vibe. It's easy for a lot of Glaswegians to not recommend their city or say bad stuff about it, purely because it's so common to do so. Interested to see because you're hitting the "expected" spots of the Highlands and Edinburgh next, but for me Glasgow is Scotland's hidden gem. It's a very down to earth and friendly city that embraces it's industrial past. The Riverside Museum is one of my favourites to visit (also free!) and house the museum of transport. Public transport is great too, lots of trains and one of the world's oldest subways that has barely changed since it was built. Also great for cycling, lots of paths and routes that take in the sights and spotting the many locations used in movies.

Hiya! Universities in the United Kingdom are from a different level. They’re so gorgeous, the building, the groundings, the parks, I would have loved studying in the UK. The way you feel at ease in Glasgow is how I feel when I go to London every year. And I felt so at ease in Australia as well. It’s a whole different vibe compared to my home in The Netherlands. That cone on the statue cranked me up 😂. Let your feelings go, don’t hold it in, we’re all human and we will understand. Your hotel looks perfect and seems to be made for solo travelers. And if you’re in the UK you must have Cadbury ❤. Thanks for sharing Glasgow and I’ll see you in Edinburgh 🤙

Hey! Loved your video! Glasgow is my home city and I love it. That guy you met is almost certainly from Edinburgh! 🤣 Edinburgh is a beautiful city and I'm sure you will enjoy it there, but Glasgow is definitely the friendly city. As you said it's a great place to visit on a wet day (which we get plenty of 😉) as many great (free) places of interest to visit indoors. You went to some of my favourite places. I love the museum and art galleries, the botanic gardens, Ashton lane, ... Hope you really enjoy the remainder of your time in Scotland. 😊😊

So Glasgow had a reputation as "no mean city" back in the day. A deeply industrial city, which needed tough men. It's great to see that this has/is changed/changing. We ain't perfect, but it's our dear green place. Haste ye back, if naw lang may yer lum reek! (Come back soon! If not, long may your chimney have smoke (long life). In old Scots.) Fun fact about Glasgow: While Nelson Mandela was a prisoner in his own country he was awarded the Freedom of the City of Glasgow. The city council also changed the name of St. George's Place in the city to Nelson Mandela Place to embarrass the South African government as their Consulate's offices were located there.

I lived in Edinburgh but worked in Glasgow for 5 years, consider i got the best of both worlds. But you have missed the real Glasgow - it is the people. You need to go into one of the many classic, world class pubs and strike up conversations, or locals on the street - all of whom will make you feel like a privileged insider for spending you precious time in their city. Oh, and you had lunch virtually next door but skipped one of the most iconic places in Glasgow- the famous Ubiquitous Chip! But your enthusiasm truly conveys the charm of this overlooked, underrated gem of a city!

I have always wanted to visit Glasgow and Scotland and this video just made it worse. What a beautiful city and it’s special to see it through your cameras. I can understand why someone actually from a place would say “why bother.” I sometimes feel that way about my hometown (maybe because it is the #1 tourist destination), but glad you went anyway and got to look at it through fresh and positive eyes. Also, know what you mean about getting a “vibe” from a great place. Love that feeling while traveling. Really like you keeping the “mm hmm” while eating the ice cream-that’s a positive review if ever we saw one!! Thanks for not letting us fall off the table (also, glad you kept that in. Very funny!). Ah!! Erin freaked out when you said your Gma made you bubble and squeak…her Gaga (grandma who was from Brisbane) made her the same when she was a kid!! She made it for me once too. How cool! (And a great dish!) Looking forward to hearing why the trip meant so much to you. Hope those aren’t bad tears. Rob&Erin PS: sorry we’ve been absent of late-we’ve seen all your latest videos but, between work and hurricanes, I’ve just not had time to even sit and say “Hi”. But all is better now. See you in the comments again next time! 😊

Thank you for your kind portrait of Glasgow, my home city and thank you for proving self-loathing weegies wrong . Yes Glasgow has an image problem rooted in long standing social and economic problems and institutional class bias. However, I feel this is what has shaped Glasgow and help create a city/people with a uniquie identity and culture. It is such a friendly city and generally Glaswegians are not shy in coming forward and always up for the craic. The self-depracating humour is evident everwhere. Its people are certainly one its biggest draws, however I feel that some of the Victorian architecture is iften overlooked. Thanks again
