DarkLink1996 The line is "Chara wasn't really the GREATEST person" not just "they're not good." You can honestly have your own AU of Chara being evil, and I won't mind. But don't change the line. The reason the original line even as it is, does not mean Chara is outright evil, is because just because Chara was not the best, does not mean they were never good at all. Having a B+ does not mean that you aren't smart- you just may not be the smartest in your class. Again, they're not the greatest, but Asriel never said they were evil either. They're somewhere in the middle. I would go further but honestly after this bit of canon dialogue, the rest is headcanon.

This song is actually very close to cannon, it's not actually confirmed if Chara is like Flowey where they dont have the ability to feel empathy. But Chara does understand those feelings since they are bonded to Frisk. Chara will always help the player, no matter what path we choose, because they dont see it as a bad thing. We shape Chara into what we want them to become. They may have helped us but at the end of the day we are the one to blame, not Chara.

​​@@jorgeabdielalejandrochavar650, you can also be evil as a kid, not simply lost, even if it shouldn't be like that by human thoughts and it may seem "abnormal" to us or to our mindsets and thoughts of children being innocent, which they should be, but the reality is that not all of them are and some are really evil and do really bad things, and they don't "change", and some people just like being evil and don't want to change, some people take pleasure in the suffering of others, and you don't lack empathy because of a disease, not everything is a disease in this world because it may seem "abnormal" to the normal human who can't understand it, people must really start stop giving everything a name and giving evil itself a name like everything is a disease or you are sick in the head (literally) when something in normal and ignorant human eyes that can't really understand that something is seen as "abnormal behavior" for a "normal" human if they really want the world and society to be better and for there to truly be justice and not our sorry excuse of justice which isn't even justice and doesn't do its job (and there are many corrupt and evil people there too), we only have human law created and ran by humans which is in constant change since always (and has been unfair and cruel many times and still is) and isn't the same thing as justice though it should be while justice doesn't change and is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and wasn't created by humans and their ideas, it's what it is, people simply seem to have a problem accepting that evil is a very real thing and maybe one of the reasons besides the selfishness and pride of people thinking that they know everything and wanting to know everything even if they are wrong is because they can't understand it or how a "normal" human can really be like that, hence again what I said about selfishness and pride and humans thinking they know everything and wanting to know everything and give everything a name and explanation, because humans can't stand for them to not understand something or for something to not seem "logical" in their eyes, and by the way, humans are rational beings that are able to distinguish good and evil, you decide how you want to be, a disease doesn't make you evil and doesn't take your empathy (and lack of guidance also doesn't make you incapable of feeling empathy), to put an example there's this case of a man with schizophrenia who's father suspected that he was not taking his medication so decided to stay with him and he ended up killing his father in a psycothic episode and was then in a hospital and his mother and sister weren't angry and were very worried and sad about him because they said that he adored his father and once he came to himself he would feel terrible and guilty, not having empathy turns you into a psychopath using the names that we use, not having empathy automatically cancells your ability to feel anything good and that's right and to do anything that's good and right (even if you did something like that it would be false in the end, so it wouldn't really be good), like love, you can't really love without empathy and compassion. This is a game, which I love by the way, I wouldn't be here otherwise, so people may look and think differently about certain characters, more so when those characters are very vague and we barely know about them and they haven't even appeared appropriately in the game or have appeared for a very short time, but that isn't reality and in reality there's true evil where humans don't have an excuse because they are humans, and reality is far more vast and strange in many ways and the world is also very complex, as well as life itself, and we humans are too along with our minds and emotions and the incredible capacities for wonderful things that we have and often throw away and discard like nothing, and there are certainly very dark and evil people in the world in life that do the worst things and cause the worst sufferings that you can imagine and that take pleasure in their actions abd being the way they are that don't even deserve to be called "humans", for they are more like demons, or maybe you don't know, maybe they appear like angels outside, maybe they hide a dark heart and don't even actively do terrible things that people would see, but that doesn't change who and what they are inside

Chara really is the most complex character. Chara, Flowey, and Sans are the only characters who actively rebel not Frisk, but YOU. And When you look at it, Chara is just a kid. They fell accidentally, Chara and Asriel poisoned Asgore accidentally, Asriel died accidentally... they wanted to save the underground too, but they failed and as you slowly get them addicted to the LV and then blame them, even though they SAY you were in control. Cause you were.

People forget that "Chara" is just derived from the coding term Toby used for all player characters including Frisk. *The Fallen Child* is the stand in for any nameable RPG protagonist. When we name NESS, when we name the protagonist in Dragonquest, when we name anyone in an RPG. *THATS US, THATS CHARA.* Those characters are our avatars in the game world, they do what we want and they help us achieve our mission. Doesn't this make the fallen child easier to understand? Atleast in one way, they are US. YOU name them. And you are meant to name them your name, or at least an alias that symbolizes you. We can't get through the game without eachother. This song understands this. It's really awesome seeing old Undertale content and finding that sometimes people knew what the game was saying far better than they generally do 8 years later. There's so much to learn from this game in terms of plot, theme, and character writing, and it's messages! Most fan content really hasn't even scratched the surface.... but It's up to you to change that if you want... CHARA.

Chara also was a real person in this game world based on dialouge and lore bits, and thats what their fan content derives from mostly. I don't disagree with you that a character can have multiple aspects that define them but what I highlighted before is the principle aspect of the Fallen child's writing. The overwhelming majority of creators write as if the backstory is the more important aspect to understanding the character, but the backstory has no driving theme without guidance from the formative core-idea behind the character concept. Backstory is a secondary aspect to theme in this case. That's all I meant to get across with my first comment

Chara isn’t the best person in the underground, this is what I believe Asriel said in the end, correct me if I’m wrong. Chara wasn’t the WORST person, she just wasn’t kind. Just like people who tend to do mean things, but don’t go over the line harsh. Chara is like that, she sees the line and doesn’t cross it because she knows there’s consequences. In UnderTale, YOU make the choices. So, if you go pacifist, Chara won’t bother you and she’ll see how happy she can truly be. Of course, she’s not pure, but she’s not evil either. In the neutral ending, she gets a kick out of watching you kill the people you didn’t like, but then again it was YOU who murdered them. So in reality, she still isn’t evil, it’s YOU because YOU took somebody’s life. Chara only watched and she couldn’t do anything about it. In the genocidal ending, YOU kill everybody in which Chara sees what it’s like to step over the line and since this is YOUR doing, she sees that it’s fine to go above and beyond. Whenever you don’t finish somebody off, she does it for you thinking that this is what you want. In the end, you had power. Chara, too, wants that power so she asks for your soul. When you disagree she gets upset and asks you when YOU were in control, even though she knows you’re in control. She needs a soul to continue your doing over and over again until she gets tired. So in reality, Chara is not a monster, nor is she a monstrosity, she’s a human child and she’s like all of us. Slightly ignorant, careless, messy, and chaotic, yet nice, kind, and positive. She only wanted to see what it would be like to step out of line for once, and once you granted her that genocidal pass to be free from her innocence and to cross the line, she takes it and loves the experience, which you granted her. So, who’s fault is it? Cause I sure as hell know it wasn’t her fault for her genocidal ways.

Chara's soul was destroyed along with his brother’s soul. On genocide, he says: "My human soul. My determination. They were not mine, but yours." Chara doesn't have a soul and his own determination. He parasitizes the soul of the last fallen human from the very beginning. The child’s determination supports his “life”. He isn't able to feel compassion or love. Accordingly, he doesn't feel sorry for his ex-mother and the rest. He says, if you click check: "Not worth talking to." He didn't want to stop. He never asked to stop. Chara simply watched and followed the example of a player or the last fallen human. He wasn't able to feel pity for anyone. Even on the path of the pacifist, he probably acts the way a player would do. These are not his true desires. He acts just like you do, and in this he also has no choice. And Chara lied to his brother, saying that they would collect only six souls, but at the same time wanting to destroy the whole village. And he would have destroyed it if Asriel hadn't stopped him. Chara wanted to kill before the appearance of the player, but only humans. Most likely, he would use monsters against humans when a war broke out between the two races. Several monsters will absorb human souls, and victory is on their side. And in the village there are hundreds of souls. And I’ll say right away why I think so. Chara took control of their common body with his brother and carried an empty shell through the barrier. The empty shell is his own dead body. It provoked people to attack, and Chara went right to the center of the village. It was not a collection of only six souls. That's why Asriel called him not the best person.
