The best thing about GX is that no duel will ever take more than 2 episodes (except one at the first climax of season 3 which took 3 episodes). I find this much more enjoyable than spending 8 episodes on a duel against Pegasus.

Once at university, I went to a reasonably well-attended lecture, and the lecturer asked how many of us were studying the course it was meant to be for. Zero. Of the sixty-ish people who had decided to attend the lecture *literally none of us* were part of the relevant course. We all just thought it looked interesting. So I have no trouble whatsoever believing that the people least interested in learning about duel monsters are the people who willingly chose to study duel monsters. Students are weird.
