In the original, Kirito has basically no personality. In this, he actually has a personality and feelings. He’s more likeable because we go through the journey with him, from loser who has games to help him cope and only cares about himself to sociopath with a god complex that now has someone to die for (Asuna). So that’s why we actually like him compared to original Kirito.
