Hello, friends! I've taken to being out in the garden bright and early to try to beat the heat. We're having a really, really heat wave, and I'm trying to get as many things planted while things are cool outside. We're also working on an irrigation system for the high tunnel, and I made a delicious creamy pasta salad that my kids love! I hope you enjoy coming along with me.
Thanks for watching!

I have to say that you show the hard work of being a farmer and that I appreciate so much. The 30 minute clips only give a slight grasp of the time needed to do the chores, repairs, upkeep, cooking, cleaning, tending the various animals and garden tasks. I say this to say: Well done! To those looking to begin a homesteading life: start small and start strong, there's many learning curves. Most of all start and fear not. God bless!

3 things I’m very thankful for today. 1. A Little Mountain Ranch Video 2. A person who enunciates…tyvm 3. Being almost deaf, the closed captioning available on most utube videos..although I don’t need it so much for yours, Chelsea, as you enunciate so clearly😊

, that's so cool about your mama. My husband’s aunt trained as an opera singer and ended up having a career as a speech therapist in Saskatchewan. After retiring several years ago, she is now using that enunciation training as an audiobook vocalist.

I think you have a family that love you and try to do their best to help you. I haven't seen a lot of your videos. But from what I've seen you have a wonderful family that seems to come together when one of you needs something they will all come together to help who ever needs anything they will sort out the problem's. Which says a lot for you and Dan you brought them up right.

We have sandy well water and use a Rusco 2" Spin Down Water Filter with 100 Mesh to remove sand/silt. Also use a 3/4" Drip Irrigation/Hydroponics Y Filter with 155 Mesh Screen on each drip location. Never have clogged lines or emitters. Both of these filters are backwashable so your not having to buy replacement filter canisters.

It’s insane how your weather in BC fast forwards compared to the UK. I see that you’re going to have to work with a 🥶 dip in nighttime temperature next few days. Don’t let that assuage you from putting up the brassica netting before the first cabbage white butterfly appears. Or at least spray a mild organic anti caterpillar formula before the butterfly netting is assembled for the duration. Garden looks awesome!!! Those baby bunnies were stunningly diverse in colouration.

Normal netting does not work (tried that many years ago, build a walk in area completly covered with netting), they white butterflies just flew through the holes and still can lay their eggs on your cabbages , . You need the finer mesh type fabric (like glass curtains) and that also helps very much to provide shade when it's hot.

The bunnies are so precious! I’m excited for you to get the drip system into the high tunnel. I want to install one myself this year in my garden. I have watched videos for several summers and I finally feel like I can do it. I’m easily intimidated by things like that and I get irritated with myself about that. Your garden is looking wonderful, I’m sure it will take off with the heat. If you do have trouble with the cabbage butterflies, maybe you can spray them with bt, that’s what I’m going to try. I have shade cloth on mine now and haven’t noticed any problems yet, but we’ll see.

I also bury my tomato main stems a couple inches in the ground-seems to make them sturdier when the heavy tomatoes come on. Do you use Worm Gold, worm castings in your soil? I know it is expensive but well worth it in a small garden- we get exceptional fruiting! I have such fond memories of watching my Grandpa Shelton using the same milking machines on his many cows on his Dairy Farm in Sunnyside, Washington🥰❣️💁🏻. Summer Menu is a great idea💡🥰

Yummo!! That is and has been my FAVORITE pasta salad. I crave it come higher temps and gardening season. I’ll throw some fresh herbs at serving so that if others don’t like the added flavors of the herb I’m craving then it’s not all throughout. Just the original. Oh boy now I’ll be making pasta salad. We did macaroni tonight with EVOO or sauce and I have left over plain noodles 😂 The bunnies are so sweet. And these ridiculous temps for us here also zone 6a Connecticut, USA. 80’s then a frost warning tomorrow night. Planted potatoes and really need to get out there and tend to plants that I haven’t even cleaned up from winter as our other issue is a creepy number of Ticks! We have deer pressure on the garden and this insane amount of ticks. Have a natural company coming Cedarwood oil application. They return at no cost if you see another. 5 at a time. Yuck plus seeing them indoors. Not a fan. Lyme disease other tick borne illnesses. Anyway nothing will keep me out of the garden but I’m so far behind yet faced extreme temps early May. This is again an interesting year for some gardening. Happy Gardening to you (and stay cool 😎 ✌️)

Hi Chelsea. Did you have to get a pressure regulator to use on your faucet for your drip irrigation? We purchased everything to run a drip line to my raised beds but haven’t installed it because all the things I’ve read from others say it has to have a pressure regulator or the standard pressure from an outdoor faucet, even on low, will cause water ti just spray out the holes.

@Little Mountain Ranch I had a similar issue in the past (Currently battling burdock and thistle in my garden) You will likely have to replant it Dig it up remove all the dirt from the roots and all non asparagus roots and replant it elsewhere And don't harvest it for 2 years so that it can rebuild its reserves and get reestablished I would do this late fall before the ground freezes or early spring next year before it wakes up You could also try weeding it as often as possible essentially nipping any shoots that pop up as soon as they pop up and essentially starve it out but well it's a pain
