Hi Chelsea. I'm a new subscriber but I love all your videos especially the soup ones. There was a time when I had soup every day...yum! But I don't cook so much now. I think those small orange squash are called Kuri squash. I have grown them and love them with chicken, coconut milk and curry soup.

Eat those lovely Brussel sprout leaves! 😊 Maybe the younger children might like to make a map for you of the garden once the beds are cleared - and measure out the beds with tapes etc.. then they can help you fill in their blank map each year as you plant? Might be fun to do. ❤

In my country cabbage is usually preserved fermented, whole heads as well as chopped as sauerkraut. People also sometimes ferment leaves to make cabbage rolls, which are so much better with fermented cabbage. If you live in colder climate, they can last until spring like that.

I think the pumpkin in 03:14 is a Hokkaido pumpkin. I don’t know, if you also call it like that in your country but in Germany we do. It’s the most popular variety in Germany, so you can buy it like everywhere!😂

The smaller orange squash that you harvested first look like Red Kuri, also known as Potimarron squash. I grew a vine this year and harvested 4 beautiful squash. They have dry dense flesh which taste a bit like sweet potato. Great roasted in large or small chunks (I like a knob of butter on mine :) ), mashed and used for 'shepherd's pie' topping or used for soups like butternut.

My parents lived in Clearwater. Dad always had an amazing potato crop. He always added 5 wheel barrow loads of compost to each row and tilled it in. He kept them well hilled. When we dug potatoes in the fall, they were dug and put in 5 gallon buckets within a few hours and then we’d dump them in a big wooden box he built in the root cellar. We had a row of potatoes this year that the deer chewed down to just a few inches. We got half an ice cream bucket of potatoes from the entire row. 😢 Every time I see your cabbage it reminds me of my parents cabbage. Theirs was always huge like yours and never a hole in the leaves. We have to keep ours covered here or we go to Desert Hills to buy a few heads.

For record keeping my garden, I took a school scribbler and used that. Nothing fancy, hand drawn rectangles for the beds and lines for the rows. Write in what was planted where. I never got around to writing in varieties of veggies. But at least I knew to rotate veggies each year.

Why don’t you use a frost row cover? That way you can protect any of the ones that are not ready yet and you don’t have to worry 😊

This year I'm growing the Northern Candy Squash for the first time, and they are doing really well in the worst part of my garden. I spotted the Georgia Candy when ordering other seeds, and since it said they produce a slightly smaller squash I ordered those to try next year to see if they'll set more per plant. I glad you really enjoy them, because I don't know anyone else that grows them.

The small orange Hubbard like squash may be Uchiki Kuri, a Japanese hubbard variety. West Coast Seeds carries them. They are lovely roasted with edible skin and a nutty flavour.

We were always told to leave the Brussels sprouts till after a least one hard frost. We are in zone 5 so maybe that's why. I always picked them straight from the garden to serve for the holidays. Many times they were covered in snow

Per Nava Leah, who watches your videos, you should always keep a garden journal with information such as: planting dates, garden location (make a map of your garden and zone each area with numbers or letters for quick reference and keep that map with your journal for future reference regarding soil health), type of produce, variety, number of plants, yield weights, losses, weather factors, fertilizers, etc, so you can compare harvest each year and know if yield is affected by weather or soil issues. She also added that you should get some wood and a wood burner to "tag" or "spike" fruit trees, bushes and your regular produce varieties, they won't poison your soil like plastic spikes. If your children eat the yields from your garden, they should regularly contribute to the work involved in getting those yields to the table, it doesn't matter if gardening is your thing or not. She would also like to know what recipes you have for spaghetti squash?

I weigh everything as it is picked. Had a great garden year. Goal was 600 pounds and I’m on track to bring in 1200 pounds. Older, so only two of us. However grown kids, friends, and my husbands work love the sharing we do. Weighing does get addictive but a great way to compare from year to year.

The leaves from the brussel sprout plants are awesome for eating! It's similar to the cabbage leaves. I use them in soups and stir frys.

Hello Chelsea, can I recommend that next year you plot out your garden on paper & post all the types of plants you have on it (especially the ones you get from a nursery). That way, at the end of the year you will have a clue what you are harvesting? It takes some work, but worth the effort as you can see what area's and plants are successful and which ones are not. The squash look wonderful to me! I didn’t grow squash this year, I was intimidated by the idea of squash bugs, which are an ever-present pest here. I’ve been canning peaches from my tree, almost done, then on to canning apples from my three trees. Harvest time is busy! I wish you well!

I spoke too soon. I love your garden/ property. The view is breath taking. And your garden/ pumpkin patch is wild and beautiful. This was my first year growing pumpkins and squash, and I'm hooked! I just harvested mine yesterday and can't wait to roast my pumpkins and can some for the year. I'm looking for a good butternut squash soup. Love this time of year as much as I do the springtime. Congratulations on a fabulous harvest! I weight all my produce using an old hanging scale like the one you have and I also check on my scale I use to weight on. I do the exact same thing! I weight it all and record in a book so I can see what did well and what did not, when produce really was growing the most, etc. I push myself to grow more in my backyard each year and shoot for a really high goal.
