It’s super impressive how Litte Simz handles so big issues, personal and up to date themes, packs it in brilliant poetic lines and performs it by relying on such a wide and very personal voice/rap/singing range, while managing to match it with orchestra parts, Afrobeats, grime and other styles (even if it’s just a provocative play on the borders) and the more I read the lyrics it shocks me that it all is performed with such a inclusive style… Sorry if it’s hard to read or If some words don’t match, I’m no native speaker nor have i a big Know-how of the english music business - just a normal guy from germany, who heard the album and can’t stop replaying it! Goddammit Simz...I literally finally stopped crying whenever I heard this song. Now I'm back to doing it again 😂 the painting really sent me over the edge. Because it's like you, a total stranger, have just layered on all of this symbolism that is strangely very personal to me. Obviously, music is universal and I don't mean any of this in a creepy-stalker-kind-of-way. It's just kind of insane how specific every detail is. Listening to this song also feels a bit bizarre because at first, it was raw. Now it's morphed into an odd feeling of closure. I doubt that makes much sense, but I have a feeling that in the future, I will be able to listen to this and smile.
