Love these ideas. I've done a lot of Shellac resist but I never let it get all the way to bone dry before starting the design. Seems smarter to do so. Another thing to think about with the shellac resist idea is you can make beautiful multi demential designs by putting a layer of shellac on, washing away some clay, add shellac to other areas and doing it again. You can repeat this process a few times letting the pot dry in between and you end up with a design that looks similar to a relief carving. I love to do this with leaf shapes adding some carved veining in the leaves before firing. Makes it look like there are multiple layers of leaves. Could be done with stripes, flowers, dots etc. etc.

Hey Vicki. Oh yes, let the clay dry to bone dry so the dry clay will wash off. I bet you will find that much more effective. I have tried the layered look with the Shellac. That is fun. Great thinking! Happy New Year to you!! Ann

This shows like ideas multiply while talking about. A common method also between engineers. I wish all would act like this. Internet could be sooo useful.

Flooring dealers quite often have a few squares left over from a finished installation. Even if you have to offer to buy them, they're either cheap or free.

HAHAHA WHAT DID JIM DO? Lol. That was too funny! These are such great ideas, of corse!! I have always wanted to try the shellack but never knew what to use. I’ll order some if what you used now! I love how you used the Lino piece. I found a bunch of really big erasers at the dollar store several years ago, 2 for 1.00 and bought a bunch! I use them for stamps and they work really well. They are super easy to cut too. And the last idea you did was just amazing!! I can’t wait to play with that idea!! Too bad my name and Phil’s are so long lol. Thank you so much Ann! As always!!

Hahaha, Jim likes to make comments that make me laugh right as I am about to record the script, so I gave it back to him a bit, haha. I forgot that he has the control of both the microphone and the final edit 🙂. As far as the names go, they are a little longer, and maybe a little more work, but I an see them working. It would have its own unique look, right.

Awesome pieces. When you carved the printing block, I thought you were going to print the shellac onto the bisque pieces. Fooled me. 👍🏻

Good idea. Thanks. It remined me on doulies we cut out as kids. They could be used for carving as well. Today I did some free hand carving of ribwort on a new yarn bowl. It is an easy to scarf plant.

lol!! That last bit!!🤣🤣 That ornament you made… was it heavy? Or did you make the pieces super thin? I was thinking about ornaments but thought they might be too heavy… thanks for your great video and Happy New Year❤️🐝🤗
@annruel19825 күн бұрын
Hi Deborah. Actually it wasnt that heavy. We put it on our Christmas tree 🙂. Rememeber, the thinner the slabs, the lighter the weight. Let the slabs dry a little before assembling them and the thinner clay wont be as fiddly. Give it a go and thanks as always for watching! Ann

Do you find the shellac works better than regular wax resist?
@annruel19822 күн бұрын
Hi Wizard. Thank so much for watching. I have tried both and they work pretty similarly, but personally I am not a fan of using wax in the studio. I am a bit sloppy and tend to get it all over everything including my fingers and then get it on my work.... which I just cant have for the work I like to do. Shellac is easier to see and clean up I feel. It is all what you prefer. Give them a go and see what you think. Ann
