As an English native, I had to pause because I couldn't understand what "Cut the chase" meant. Then i realized you meant "cut to the chase." Without "to" it looks so...incomplete.

I've never heard it said "cut the chase," only "cut to the chase." It's kind of interesting: it'd make sense both ways ("cut the chase" meaning skip over the part where you struggle and just get to the part where you actually catch the thing you're chasing, or "cut to the chase" meaning skip over the lead-up and get to the actually interesting action sequence), but either way, I've not heard it said like that. Maybe it's a regional difference?

When someone wishes an actor or actress to break a leg, they are wishing them a fabulous performance because back in the Elizabethan Era, pleased audiences may applaud for an extended time allowing the cast to take multiple curtain calls, bowing to the audience, and for the third time, the actor or actress may kneel down to receive the applause. It is considered to be a great honour at that time to "break a leg" and the phrase is still used today.

*Cut to the chase* originates from old movies where you cut/skip those boring parts, right into the exciting part, which is the chase. It means remove all the nonsense and get to the main point. *Cut the chase* is wrong and seems like the total opposite. Cutting the most exciting, interesting part away. Its like removing/cutting away the main point...
