A few things: The typical capacity at the 16th hole is around 20,000 (daily). Pro golfers are independent contractors who are given the choice of the PGA TOUR or sign with LIV. There’s a big difference though, with the tour they actually have some freedom unlike those with LIV who are obligated to play where and when they are told. You may be right but there are so few events. Don't you think it will get boring seeing the same names on the leaderboard every week? I think one of the things that's great about the PGA is that there's an event EVERY week. Players come in and out depending on the prize money obviously but it does diversify the field.

You guys are way off on the capacity. 16th Hole itself holds 20,000 per day. The tournament attendance is WELL OVER 200,000 on Saturday alone. For the last few years, total attendance from Thursday-Sunday is over 700,000 people.

If I didn't have a DVR, I would never watch another PGA event again. Every 5 minutes, sometimes less, you get commercials, sometimes disguised as "Playing Through". I couldn't stand it without a DVR, and even with one, it's getting beyond ridiculous. The greed is staggering on the part of both the PGA, and the players. 25 million bucks for winning a tournament? They can piss off.

Augusta is letting LIV come play at the national. That means a lot when it’s one the most popular golf tournaments in the world. Us local folks in Augusta thought it would never happen. Shit, they didn’t even let a women member in until a few years ago. I guess money talks. I don’t have a problem with it
@Sorni82 жыл бұрын
I was a huge TV golf fan (it looks so damned great in HD), plus I'm a lefty so rooted for Phil "phirst". Tuned into Golf Channel almost daily. Then the whole LIV thing hit, and all the PGA had to do was welcome the competition like it does with European golf, Asian golf, DP World, etc. Plus, like your guest said, the Saudis sponsor a shit-ton of LPGA events, and Golf Channel covers them no problem (with pretty good ratings, I'd guess). For majors and select Tour events, let the LIV guys play! Instead, because the PGA banned LIV golfers, its events are watered down and draw less interest (from me, at least). Golf Channel should *COVER* LIV events along with all the others. It would grow the game instead of politicizing it. Maybe it's just me, but I hardly ever turn on Golf Channel now. I'll watch the Masters, of course, and probably the other majors, but weekly Tour events no longer interest me. Sad...and a shame.
@krusher742 жыл бұрын
If LIV had stuck to a 4 round weekend with a cut it would have been a equivalent comp. 3 round no cut is thier failing.
@Sorni82 жыл бұрын
@@krusher74 Why does it matter? Let them do their thing - televise it (fills out "dead slots" on Golf Channel) - then have PGA events like normal. LIV players can pick and choose (subject to qualifying like always); Tour events would have been that much more competitive and interesting (especially with new rivalries). Not too late if they want to grow both the game AND audience!
@philiprother7530 Жыл бұрын
Golf has always been bigger than both the PGA and LIV, and any other tour where the game is grown through excelling at the game. My only hope, as an instructor and speaking also for Golf Course workers out there in general, that both of them can get their heads out of their asses and do more for public course growth/preservation, wages, and more localized help. That's where Golf's bigger picture is.

I hate that argument of “who made your phone? Who made your clothes?” Because of that we’re just supposed to be ok with doubling down on taking Saudi investments on yet another thing? “What about this? What about that?” It’s bs. The players have the right to leave and play whatever tour they want but they don’t have the right to continue taking money from the tour and taking Saudi money.

PGA is a human grooming cult. For 20 years Ive been a Golf Professional yet I am blackballed from Teaching or obtaining a Head Golf Pro title strictly because I refuse to go to a "may not graduate self education," with little to no job placement, you're more expendable than a worker at a 99cent store only to hold a title and a small bump in salary to not play golf and be stuck in an office.
