The message is a central lesson for sure. Sometimes I feel like making it a secret is the best move to make. Typical reactions from people around you are putting in question why you learn that language, why you don't speak more, why you don't know x after y amount of months/years, and so on. Learning communities often turn out to be a huge demotivator as well as they put in question the amount of time you take, the amount of time you need, the methods you chose, the goals you set, and so on. It's just an ocean of criticism, I barely get anything positive out of language learning as a topic.
