Thanks so much, this is the journey I am taking, starting with Genki and committing full immersion into Japanese during spare time. Hopefully N1 within 2 years is my goal.

It’s not one or the other, it’s one and the other. Anki on its own won’t get you fluent and Immersion on its own is a waste of time but the two of them together is where the magic happens. If you’re dead set on only doing one for some reason, immersion only is better than Anki only but why would you do that?

The key point is to be persistent when learning Japanese. When I was just starting out, I find kanji to be the easiest part to learn since I am fond of memorizing stuff. Anime also motivated me to keep on absorbing new knowledge each day. As long as an individual builds a solid foundation through the right approach, then he/she can gradually become fluent in a new language over a period of time. All the best to everyone. 😄👍

Thank you. I like to listen to these conversations about languages and different languages --- the more the better but I would say 113 languages [ the thirtieth prime number and 26{12} = Aih-Yah --- the infinite diety ] = 95{12} is a maximum. I have studied ~34{12} = 40(X) languages and have also learned about to do Dozenal Numerology [mainly using the Roman Alphabet] which is probably from the Andromeda Galaxy = M31{12} = M37(X) , but , of course, the psychic astronomers managed to confuse us by not believing they were really psychic. The language spoken in the ascending part of the Andromeda Galaxy is Anuhazi, but only one in many millions of people have heard about Anuhazi [Go to Azurite Press for this!!!-!!!--!!!-!!! -- ie: Base Twelve]............................................................. My 7 main languages of study: Russian, German, ქართული ენა [ = Georgian Language ] , Finnish, Japanese ( but only achieved A1), Avar [ Авар мацӀ but just know how to count and a few sentences because it is extremely hard to find any information on a relativity rare language like Avar [usually 52 letters], but Tabasaran is an even more rare written language with an established alphabet of about 55 letters] , and English. I am hoping to attend another World Polyglot group. The past polyglot group I attended was in Reykjavik, Iceland in October to November of 2017 A.D. I have about 78 languages and songs in these languages on my You Tube Group: Eva Vyera Kali James . I am 70 years of age and hopefully my heart does not give out!!!-!!!--!!!-!!!----!!!-!!!--!!!-!!!

I disagree. Duolingo helped me a lot, so explain me how I was able to study Spanish at the UK Uni at B1/2 level only after 2 years learning with the app? Besides Duo I was watching, listening and reading in Spanish. After 8 yrs I'm still with Duo.
@BK-lo6ml12 күн бұрын
Need to add that I didn't know anything about Spanish grammar and the language leader threw me straight to b1/2 group because I understood a lot- a really stressful experience because others studied that language at school.

I knew this was BS when he said you can memorize 90% of Hiragana and Katakana in a week. LOL 😆
@rareekshorts12 күн бұрын
You can though? If you’re willing to put in effort it is very possible to memorise all of hiragana and katakana in less than a week.
@LifeofBar12 күн бұрын
@@rareekshorts It's just not possible bro. What are you talking about? Hiragana and Katakana each have 46 basic characters, adding up to 92. Then, when you include characters with diacritics (like ば and ぱ) and compound characters (like きゃ and きゅ), you’re looking at around 71 per syllabary, making it 142 in total. When you do the math, mastering 90% of that means about 128 characters. And when people say "memorize," they usually mean you can recognize and write each one without hesitation. Honestly, it's unrealistic to expect people to nail down all this in just a week. Thinking that way can lead people to feel discouraged if it doesn't happen right away, which is totally normal! Learning at a slower, steady pace is perfectly fine, and actually might be better for building a strong foundation.
@rareekshorts12 күн бұрын
@@LifeofBarYeah! youre right. everyone learns at a different pace and we shouldnt compare with others.

Duolingo tells us how to speak language and makes us able to learn word and phrases easily. But fluency can be achieved only by speaking language frequently Tip to achieve fluency with Duolingo Whatever new words or phrases you learned in duolingo's lesson, use those words and phrases in daily life If there is no one around you who knows the language you are learning then still keep speaking the words and phrases.

Anki is just for vocab. so you can hear or read you recognise... You won't know a word if you never see or remember it.

I've been using Duolingo to learn Spanish, and I supplement by watching movies in Spanish with English subtitles, and I try writing en español a mi amigos. When I was in Mexico I was able to get around, argue with taxis, order food, and understand my friends.. I'm still not quite able to have a conversion yet, but I think with time I can get there. What I really like about Duolingo, is how well they gamified it, and use friend streaks to keep you in it. My adhd brain is totally up for it!! I was never able to learn other languages/pay attention before finding duo.

I use Anki for drawing attention to new words and for cementing the memory of words I’ve recently run into during immersion. Also, for exposing myself to sentences that I couldn’t understand the meaning of previously.

Duolingo has toxic competitiveness. No one will ever properly learn that way what with trying to advance in leagues and stay in them by pushing other people out. What stress!

Yeah, getting catfished isn't thr only thing to consider - what about the whole "my sole purpose for being in a relationship with this person is because I'm using them to learn a language faster" thing. I'd be very put off from dating foreigners/non-japanese speaking people if I were Japanese. Borderline fetishisation IMO.

No app or class will make you fluent. They are just to get you through the beginner phase so that then you can start immersing yourself in the language by travelling to the country or by doing language exchanges and tutoring. It takes years to become fluent.
