Nah, I can't dislike this at all. It's made with such sincerity and love. I respect criticism of how pacing and plot sequencing and even character arcs were changed. But there's so much emotion and respect in the creation of this. I love it.

I think season 1 was done pretty well. Child acting has always been an issue, but I think they did solid for how young they all are. I’m hoping some of the “glaring” issues will be fixed in seasons 2 & 3. They did get new showrunners for seasons 2 & 3, and that has my optimism a little higher.

Thoughts before watching your reaction: Hope you enjoy, I did. Just remember this is an adaption (not an exact copy) that takes 20 separate 1/2 half hour animated episodes (mostly telling their own story within an overarching story) and translating such into 8 individual hour length episodes while attempting each episode to focus on a similar story/theme. So expect some changes, some additions, some exclusions, some compression, and some reorganization. Thoughts after watching your reaction: Enjoyed your reaction/analysis. Despite having to shoulder a lot of exposition, I think the first episode does it pretty well. I like seeing the new scenes of the actual invasion/genocide but it does give the show a little more serious feeling where the animated show can shift between the serious and the light more easily. Also really like what they do with Gyatso. Like you I do miss some fun scenes from the animated show but then that is a reason to always re-watch it.

It’s sooooo hard to do live action adaptations and NOT compare it to the source material, especially for such a beloved series like ATLA, but I’ll admit Netflix did a hell of a job with this, especially compared to the movie (glad you watched that first, you can compare how a good vs bad adaption can be). Obviously fitting a season into 8 episodes is challenging so they had to tweak some of the story elements a bit. Some of them I enjoyed, others not so much. I love how you’ve become such a fan of this series now you can enjoy all these little jokes like the rest of us, eagerly anticipating famous lines or scenes from the show 😂 The animation for the bending looks SOO good I think. And look! Zuko actually has a scar! (lol) Overall, kudos Netflix 🙌🏻

IRL Mammoth houses were made out of Mammoth bones. Similar to the ribcage house at the beginning

So glad you're on to this. I believe overall you will like this, as it is not a mirror of the show by FAR. But Zuko and Iroh will definitely grow on you:)

I think most of all it’s pretty great, and I think they will improve upon for season 2.

There is one thing about the netflix series I liked even more than on Avatar. When you get there I will tell you, but I think they did a great job with this series!

it helps to think of this as an adaptation rather than a direct copy because they changed a lot but it's not bad, obviously wayyyy better than the Shyamalan disaster but still a long way from where I'd like it to be. Zuko and Iroh are the best part ngl I'm sure most people agree with that lol Zuko NAILED ITTTT

Knowing that you're someone who does very well when it comes to separate two differents shows with the same "plot" (at least from what I've seen from ATLA and TLOK), I think you're going to like this serie a lot. Some people wanted a copy-paste when this show is his own thing. There's some issues here and there, but nothing that takes away the essence of the show. My opinion tho, hoping to see yours throughout your reactions 😉
